I recall discussions of a fan fix for the 30k but a search on this forum had no results

anyone have the info? I would like to slow it down/ make it quieter: I would like to leave the unit on 24/7 to use as a tuner and to provide a component video output for my DirecTivo but I find the fan noisy

btw- my 30k is still running fine albeit little use

The only fan issue I know of was the fan not turning itself off when the power was off unless you set the time.

I am beginning to think the fan might even be a CAUSE of some of the 30K problems. Think about it,the fan PULLS air THROUGH the unit and out the exhaust, along with the air comes dust and nasties in it,and they can land on anything on the way out, including the head. Just look at how filthy the exhaust gets after a few months on your computer fan. Sounds rediculous but its an idea.

Well, you could take a hint from the Projector forum and make a DIY pre-filter.

I'm not sure about the fan fix either, but I do notice that my fan comes on sometimes even when the unit is off.

Also, I was less than satisfied when I ran my Dishplayer through the 30K and used the component output. There seemed to be some type of noise issue. The picture was a little bit "wavey." I didn't do a lot of troubleshooting, but I didn't see the issue when playing DVHS tapes.

To me, the picture looked better using the S-Video output directly from the satellite receiver.

yeah, I decided using the component video out for the DirecTivo was not worth it

re your fan coming on when unit is off: setting the clock properly will address that

What do you mean by "properly"?

I did the auto-setting by tuning to PBS on the cable input. Do you need to manually set the time for the fan to go off?

I had the exact problem you report and a post on this forum told me to set the clock: I went into the menu and set the clock manually to the correct time and the fan coming on by itself problem was resolved

Strange...

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try.
