JVC 4910 vs Epson 6030

I am in the process of deciding what to do and would like some thoughts from others

My current setup is a JVC RS 45 with a Prismasonic 5000 anamorphic lens ceiling mounted 17 feet from a Stewart 130 screen 235 ratio 138" diagonal wall mounted. My room is dedicated and totally light controlled. The ceiling is black and the walls are dark gray but I'm about to go black on those also.

I watch only Blurays and really enjoy 3D. As I own 80 plus 3D movies I would like a better 3D option.

I have an Epson 6030 on lone and the 3D is nicer than my 45 but the 2D is not as good. I recently saw the 4910 and the 2D was great but the 3D was not as good as the Epson but better than the 45.

My options:

1) Get the Epson and live with the slightly inferior 2D

2) Get the 4910 and live with the inferior 3D

3) Keep the 45 maybe get a new bulb to slightly improve the ghosting ( which is my main issue with it).

There is some debate about the longevity of active 3D and I know I watch more 2D than 3D as most movies are 2D but given the choice I will pick the 3D version..

I guess another option may be to keep the 45 and get a DLP and hang it behind and lower off the ceiling than my 45 and get a pulldown HP just for 3D but not sure I want to do that .

What would you do?

Any thoughts are welcome.

Loaded question.
Since we are a dealer and I am a 2D guy (that should tell you where I lean), I will stay out of it.
Looking forward to others responses.

I should add that I have owned 2 other JVC projectors - the RS 2 and 20 and love the JVC "look" to an image. Every time I watch a movie on my 45 I say to myself " that is a nice picture". With the Epson I feel like i"m watching a "regular TV " for lack of a better term- the picture is ok but I don't ever say "wow". Also I use my projectors with OOTB settings. Even though I own a C6 and have paid for Calman I haven't had the time to learn how to use it. I really do enjoy the 45 with the OOTB settings and when I saw the 4910 last weekend it was a great picture with better blacks and a brighter image than my 45 but I feel you need a totally black roon to get the benifits of the extra blacks (which I can do) and we watched the picture with OOTB settings. Don't misunderstand a good calibration would probably make it even better but it was very nice w/o it.

Now as far as 3D if only JVC could get it as good as Epson has- very minor ghosting,no flicker , built in 3D emitter and inexpensive comfortable glasses - it would be a slam dunk for me.

While the LCD projectors look nice, I feel the same way regarding LCOS/SXRD.
I had the RS-45 and I just sole the HW50. I liked the Sony better than the RS45 for pretty much everything except the JVC had black levels. I'm going to get one of the new JVCs and hoping it is at least close enough in price.

AVS had B stocks on the HW50 and RS4810. Have you considered one of those and getting a DLP for 3D like others rave about here? Not sure what kind of a price difference on the 4810 vs the 4910. Maybe it's closed enough to go a 2 projector route.

I like 3D on some movies but I think for some things I am starting to prefer 2D (especially most non-animated movies). This affected my opinion as for the longest time my main concern has been deeper black levels and hopefully the new JVCs will satisfy. I know they will at least to some extent because the RS45 had better black levels vs the HW50.
I think if I don't stay with my 45 and went the JVC route I would want the 4910 ( for the better blacks) as the price difference between it and a 4810 wouldn't be of significant enough concern for me. If I decide to go the 2 projector route I think I will keep my 45 for now as buying 2 projectors is more than I want to spend at this time.
Joe, you might want to do a search; I think there have been a couple of other threads in the last couple of weeks asking the same question.
I follow the board on a regular basis and I have seen some other similar questions and have read alot on the 4910 and 6030 (5030). I have now seen them both although I didn't get to play around with the 4910's 3D too much to see if I could improve it to my liking.

I just thought maybe someone would say something that I haven't considered or just throw a little more light on the subject to help me make a final decision in my particular case.
Can you do a two projector setup? Cheap DLP for 3d and LCOS for 2d?
A two projector setup is an option but since I ceiling mount it would require the DLP projector being mounted behind and lower (off the ceiling) than my JVC and possibly an HP screen. Therefore its not my first choice.

You know damn well Joe that there is a 4910 out there calling your name....." Joe, Joe, buy me Joe " .

I once had a Lumis that talked to me in my sleep - until I finally broke down and bought it !

If it were me, I would keep the 45 for it's excellent 2d and add a cheap DLP for 3d so you can get the best of both worlds. I run a 45/BenQ 7000 and love the combo. 3d is night/day better on the 7000 vs my 45. I have seen last years JVC X75 which by all accounts is the same for ghosting as the new models and I was not impressed. No way I would personally be happy with a JVC for 3d which is why in your shoes, I would simply keep the 45 which still throws an awesome 2d pic and get your 3d up to par with a DLP.
It sounds like 3d is important enough to you (considering you own 80 3d movies) that going through the initial hassle of adding a 2nd projector would be worth it. Not to mention this would be the cheapest option of the bunch as well which is a nice bonus.

I'm trying to silence the whispering or maybe ignore it- LOL

The more I think about it its not a bad idea.

Its too bad the Sharp 3000 is hard to get (Zombie seems to like it the best for 3D) but the Ben Q may be a good choice although I would like to see it first.
Hi,

the Epson with the Sony Bluray Player S 790 its an amazing team.

The same Level in sharpness, depths and colour as JVCs MPC at the 4910.

The Black Level goes to the 4910.

Briliant 3D, in my opinion its DLP Level.

In less darkened rooms a real alternative couple.

I am a owner of a 4910;)

Greetings poem

The 4810 B-stocks did not last more than two business days. They are gone now.

!

I agree on the 3D part of the Epson but not sure what you mean about the 4910- do you mean it has as good of 3D as the Epson except better blacks or the same 2D except better blacks.

I have seen both and the JVC has better 2D and the Epson has better 3D IMO

Ok - now I'm just having fun with you! Although if you start seeing things like this - please see your psychiatrist - or your JVC dealer !

If you really want the best of both the 2D and 3D worlds right now without breaking the bank then you are probably going to have to bite the bullet and go the two projector route. No need for a HP screen for 3D as long as the 3D projector has high lumens. Perhaps the new BenQ W7500 (MSRP $2.8K) would work well as the 3D projector to complement a JVC to handle the 2D projection. The W7500, like the W7000 it replaces, is a relatively long throw model and could be mounted lower and further back from the screen than the JVC. The W7000 could put out around 1500 lumens calibrated and the W7500 should be similar. This should be enough to work well for 3D with your ST130 screen. One thing about all BenQ projectors (and most other DLP 3D capable models) is it uses DLP-Link and I don't think that DLP-link is a very good technique to sync. the projector and the 3D glasses.

Of course another course of action would be to do nothing for now and look toward a 4K UHD model in late 2014/early 2015 (I mean native 4K and not the JVC eShift 4K-lite) to provide a step up in 2D and perhaps adequate 3D (the Sony 600ES might do that for you today but for lots of $$$ but next model year probably for less $$).
