"JVC's new Clear Motion Drive II technology, like the original, features a refresh rate of 120 frames per second (120Hz), double the typical rate. But CMD II has been designed specifically for full HD (1920 x 1080) displays and improves motion detection fivefold compared to the original high speed driver."

Thanks for the info. I am looking to get a new HDTV by the end of summer as our 3 year old Sharp is getting a little outdated.

Rats... just read the press release in your link and it mentions a fall release several times. Do they usually release early in the fall or later on?
They normally release in early fall. Good luck with your search.

This is the announcement I have been waiting for!
I love my 40FH96 and am targeting this fall to upgrade!

Same here. I've read that the JVC's have one of the better video processors; throw in a matte screen and no major problems and it'll be high on my list.
Interesting that the sizes have moved from 40"/46" to 42"/47" now. This means they're no longer using panels from Samsung anymore. Probably AUO now, or worse LG/Philips.

Not sure where they will get their panels. They could even have an agreement with s-lcd, who knows (s-vid will move away from the Samsung sized panels). I read where Samsung is going its own way and will make "non-standard" panels. According to this article Samsung panels may start to cost more because they are 'non-standard' sizes and component manufacturers will have to make special runs to accommodate. http://displaydaily.com/2006/04/12/s...ith-lgphilips/

A good guess. It looks like it's one of the new batch coming out soon:

".... JVC's 10-bit panel..."

"...color gamut is 102 percent..."

Based on my crystal ball, JVC is now in first place.

"...second generation...motion interpolation..."

"...data from more than 8,000 surrounding dots in a frame to create a pixel and calculate movement from the current frame to the next..."

"...interpolate for movement in all directions..."

"its fifth generation D.I.S.T. (Digital Image Scaling Technology) engine on the JVC-exclusive 32-bit Genessa chip..."

Now, we just need someone with a time machine to test it using SO's HD HQV Benchmark DVD.

For a moment I thought you were Nmlobo saying he was finally ready to move on from the 40FH96. Guess Nmlobo isn't upgrading yet to the new family of 1080p JVC LCD's.

Thanks for that, I hadn't seen that piece of news. So the S-LCD Gen 8 Fab is optimized to cut 47" panels and not 46". That's going to make it harder to spot off-brands using Samsung panels now. Then again, I hear AUO has been producing 46" (mostly FOR samsung) for a while now too.

I'd rather seem them adopt the Genmum VXP they use in their projector line. Unless they're just rebadging it because they've been trying to build recoginition for the term Genessa over the years. Either way I'd be happy, since the VXP is the closest thing to the Realta out there right now.

No need to upgrade. My LT-40FH96 1080p display is excellent and by far one of the best sets I've seen!
Once again I am disappointed. Why the heck don't they have anything bigger than 47" coming out? Is there some difficulty with making 50"+ panels. JVC is a big company, and after hearing they had good processor, I thought for sure they would have some larger panels......damn.

That's pretty easy - they do not build there own glass and they would have to buy such a larger size from but a handful of panel makers making anything larger than 46".

The bad rap on JVC brand is that historically they rarely meet release dates and I don't mean a few weeks they are often late by 3-6 months from their announced dates. The only panels larger than 52" are Sharp, Samsung and the new Toshiba 57" which is most likely glass of one of the former mentioned panels. Of course I do not include the Sony 70" since that's in another category pricewise.
According to DisplaySearch, the following are the top seven LCD TV module makers and a list of their top five customers.

LPL - Phillips, LGE, Panasonic, Toshiba, Amtran.

Samsung - Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, JVC, Sanyo

AUO - Samsung, Philips, Toshiba, Panasonic, LGE

CMO - Funai, Xoceco, Westinghouse, Proview, TTE

Sharp - Sharp, Philips, JVC, Mitsubishi, Panasonic

CPT - Philips, Funai, Konka, Samsung, TPV

QDI - Sharp, Philips

DisplaySearch reports that Philips, Samsung, Sharp and Sony were the top customers for 6 of the top 7 LCD module suppliers.

For the past two years, JVC has met their release dates for new HDTVs. It appears they are doing much better.
When they couple that with a 2ms response rate ,they may have something. Until then, I'm sticking with my CRT-RPTV.

I believe they are claiming 4ms.
