Was about to purchase Sony KV32HS420 and saw a JVC next to it and the picture was simply stunning on the JVC. In three stores I viewed the Sony and the HD picture was hard to distinguish from regular....it was simply a bad picture. The JVC was in a different league for less money. Can anyone comment on these observations....I always leaned toward Sony but not as of now.

JVC makes good TVs. For some reason they're not carried in many stores so they're hard to find, thus not too many people have them.

What stores did you see them at?

And were it displaying SD or DVD or real HD when you saw them?

The only place online I could find it being sold was Sears. Is that where you saw it? It seems like a decent TV. Too bad I don't have a Sears near me or I'd go take a look.

Strange that Circuit City doesn't pick them up, they've got a 36" non-hdtv and a 30" WS non-hdtv. If you're going to shell out $500+, why not go HD?

I have only seen it at Sears and that is where I bought it, neither CC nor BB had them. Had I not seen the Sony at CC and BB and seen roughly the same quality picture on the Sony in all the stores, I would have thought that it looked that bad in comparison due to some type of crappy hookup at sears. In every instance it was hard to tell if I was watching high def or regular on the Sony...even though I saw the discovery HD logo I was still not believing it was HD because I am used to my panny 500. The JVC was like looking at a high quality hd plasma....the picture was razor sharp and the color was gorgeous....I could see minute details that weren't even there on the Sony ( and I adjusted the settings on both for fairness). I am actually excited about getting this tv. I just wondered if anyone had any opinion on this because even I thought that Sony was the best so I didn't consider any other brand.

It seems like a fairly nice TV, I found a Sears within subway range (no car when you live in NYC) so I might go take a look see. Was it on sale?

If it isn't, MSRP is still quite a bit more then the Panasonic 32" CT-32HXC14 and that's the one I'm leaning towards right now (free shipping, sales etc)

The Sony KV32HS420 looked mighty fine though. So did the 27" version. Man, those TV's are clear. If the JVC is anything like you are saying, I might be swayed.

I believe MSRP is 999 but Sears has it for less and there is a 10% coupon floating around there. I too looked at the Panasonic, but the Sony looked easily sharper, and the JVC was better than the Sony as well. Let me know what your observations are because I am interested to see someone else substantiate or shoot down my experience.

Hi everyone,

I've been a lurker around here for about a month or so; I've appreciated the amount of knowledge that exists and what I've been able to learn so far. Admittedly, however, I'm a newbie to the HDTV world and probably will have little to contribute of any significance. :D

My situation is that of a beginner. . .my wife and I have used a 20" Panny in our living room (from our college apartment) for a while now as we diverted our "starting out" income to things like furniture and a new vehicle (gotta have priorities :D). Now, with $145 in Sears rewards certificates expiring in December, we want to go ahead and finally get a "real" TV. We have toyed with just buying a SDTV for now since we don't plan on getting HD progamming for at least another year, but we are avid DVD and TV on DVD watchers and realized that a fairly large HDTV can be had for under 1000 dollars. . .which fits our budget. So, Sears is the store, 4:3 ratio give the best bang for the buck at this price level, and the options are the 32" Sony and the 32" JVC, which I just discovered Sears carried a couple of weeks ago while checking online.

Anyway, I decided to post because I wanted to thank Steve for mentioning this JVC television, which has limited availability but can be found at Sears and Amazon.com. Sears sells the TV 100 dollars below MSRP. I've been waiting for Sears' famous 10% off everything sale to pounce and the time is here. Add my free rewards certificates and another 30 dollar coupon I have and either way, the Sony or the JVC can be had for a GREAT price!

I'd appreciate any comments any of you may have about this TV as you come across it in the future; I plan on checking it out vs. the Sony tomorrow and will let you know what my amateur and inexperienced opinion is when I formulate it and if you are interested. I've seen the Sony in three stores but I did not make an effort to determine whether I was looking at HD or SD. The picture quality was very good, but not the "amazing" that I hear you experience when looking at HD programming, so over the next couple of days I need to study these TVs in the store with greater scrutiny (i.e., find out what kind of connections they have).

I also must admit that I probably would not be able to pick out some of the image quality issues that you guys seem to on this forum, but I think it's safe to say that though I want the best image quality possible I also am more concerned about reliability. I believe JVC and Sony are both reputable in that category, but JVC offers the better standard warranty on their HDTV (1yr parts and labor vs. 1yr. parts and 90 days labor for the Sony). Another plus? Perhaps.

Take care and thanks again for the great forum!
