I am certain that this is insignificant, but today I found out that the Movie Maker Utility in Windows XP allows one to send commands to the JVC VCR. And, of course, the VCR executes those commands. I managed to PLAY, STOP, REWIND and FAST-FORWARD the tape in the VCR. Now I would like to know whether one can record a file from the hard drive on the VCR. Can anyone tell me that? Thanks!

I forgot to say that I can also send the RECORD command to the JVC 30K VCR, and it records NOTHING to the tape! I wish Microsoft told us the secrets or their products!

I wonder. Maybe this is no failure of Microsoft instruction. Could it possibly be that JVC has purposely made it difficult to record from hard disk?

It could be, I guess! The Movie Maker has a the usual pannel with buttons for all the functions expected of a recording utility, including a buton that clearly indicates that it evokes the recording function. I veryfied that every one of those functions worked, and when I clicked on RECORD. the VCR started recording on the tape. But no video data was sent to the VCR, so it recorded nothing whatsoever. Since I do not have a HiPix card yet, I was just trying to find a way of utilizing the 1394 link to check it out. Today I received a quotation from Leszek http://www.mitinc.co.kr/ for their HD card and am considering purchasing one. The price is $310 plus $80 for S&H to the US. The HiPix card with local support is only $9 more plus S&H (Iguess), and I will have to do a bit of reading on the other threads before I consider getting the Korean card directly and without any local support.
