Overall the unit sounds nice, but it only uses one 1.18 megapixel imager to for its video and it is a 4X3 imager. In the manual it says it actually only uses 840,000 pixels (even though 720p is 921600 pixels). But bear in mind that all indications are that it is a 1 CCD imager camera where as professional HD cameras typically use 3 seperate imagers. The net effect is that the JVC will have picture quality on par with a typical "1 Megapixel" digital camera.
The good news is that it should make some great wide-screen 480p. The 720p is going to be soft (it should look a lot like upconverted 480p).
