Do a search in the forum and you'll find info on it.

Overall the unit sounds nice, but it only uses one 1.18 megapixel imager to for its video and it is a 4X3 imager. In the manual it says it actually only uses 840,000 pixels (even though 720p is 921600 pixels). But bear in mind that all indications are that it is a 1 CCD imager camera where as professional HD cameras typically use 3 seperate imagers. The net effect is that the JVC will have picture quality on par with a typical "1 Megapixel" digital camera.

The good news is that it should make some great wide-screen 480p. The 720p is going to be soft (it should look a lot like upconverted 480p).

The GR-HD1 is already available in Japan:

Hopefully we'll be able to get it for less than $3K in the states.

I will audition it when I get a chance but right now it isn't on my "must have" list.

Ps. if it turns-out this camera uses 3 seperate 1.18 megapixel imagers, then I take it all back, but at this point it appears that there is only 1 in the design.

I saw and usedthis camcorder last week at NAB.

Yes it is a single chip camera. They have done a pretty good job with it. the 720p output is very impressive for a $3500 device. Don't let the single chip thing scare you away from it.

bobbyc: can't do much untill may 7th or so (delivering a big commercial job)

but anytime after that is cool.. :)

until then, I plan on posting some samples from the camera in the next

couple of days... (raw transport streams, as well as windows media 9

compressed versions), I shot just outside by my work, and so far I'm

pretty impressed... just going to go to a more interesting location

before posting boring parking lot footage . ... now to get some sleep

the camera menu's are in japanese, as are the buttons on the camera.

most functions are easy to figure out, a few menu items I'm going to have

a friend translate for me... the manual helps a little, since it has picture

diagrams for most functions, so it's not completely un-usable. I also found

a few reference photos in english of the buttons to help.
