Apologies if this has been asked before but, I am interested in knowing more details of the compression used on the JVC HM-DH30000 for the storage of 1080i. Does anyone have the details or are there any technical papers?

Also, when playing back pre-recorded tapes such as Bikini Destination or the Smart Travels series, I am occasianlly seeing what appear to be macro blocks, not sure if this is due to a head clog or bad tape. Anyone else had such experience?

Thanks in advance.

MPEG2 is the compression scheme used.

There's a million threads on the second problem listed. Yes, it's commonplace and common knowledge. The quick fix is to just clean the heads with either the JVC or Maxell head cleaners.
