Jvc Rs2.....

i just set up one of these yesterday and it's a bigger upgrade from the RS1 that i'd though based on the mediocre CEDIA demo. The colors seem a little more accurate, the settings are close to dead on, the focus is better (made easier with the remote focus/zoom which is superb!). Blacks are about as black as one can hope. I still notice a bit of grain that could just be source and maybe some motion issues that i don't notice on DLPs, but still, quite an upgrade from the RS1 with precious few flaws. i'd be surprised if anything below $20k or $30k has much to offer that it doesn't do.

Great to hear I've not seen it yet. What kind of clibbrated lumens are you getting ?

Is that a question?

Hi Art, not sure about that one. I don't have a sensor for that. My guy is all by eyes (which is easier these days that it was).
I am getting about 371 lumens at D65 on the RS2 (after calibration...it wasn't all that close out of the box).
My RS1/HD-1 has only less one hundred on the bulb.......maybe I should go after RS5

Sub 400 here too (396).

Jason and CM, are those numbers short or long throw? High or low bulb setting?

Just curious.

Doug

Crap that is low. I need to measure mine. I will have pre-calibration measurment now and I will do a post after I get my Radiance back from the shop.

What did you measure from the RS1 calibrated?
Jason. I assume you are doing a review. Should come out almost simultaneously with Greg R's in WSR (on line). Would you be so kind to post a screen shot of the lens resolution pattern from DVE projected through this projector? Thanks

It is low, but there are worse lumen performers out there costing more. 8ft wide screen @ 1.3 gain was giving 13fl and will fade to under 10. Small screens only unless you can tolerate a high gain screen.

Jason. when you measured the RS2 at what zoom position were you. I have read reviews which for D65 go anywhere from 350-550.

Testing the zoom full range gave 334-421.

Hope that helps

I looked at the RS2 last week and it looked fairly sharp , not great but good. There is a review of an RS2 which shows a shot under "RS2 sharpness" and there are two pictures one of a numerical display which demonstrates mild softness and one of a dinner table which demonstrate some of the haze I would call it blooming or crosstalk. other than that the color looks fine to me. So its a mixed bag but still a very good value.

to answer a previous question I do not know what glass they are using in the very complex 16 element lens they use in the RS2 but as we say in the optics industry it has a lot of glass which means it should have enough glass to produce a beautiful image. That does not mean it does produce a sharp image but it should.

The quality variation is so large that you are essentially rolling the dice when you buy a single chip and especially 3 chip projector from anyone. If the panel alignment doesn't get you the lateral color aberration will, which is why I think the zonal convergence adjustment on the Sony VW-200 is an overlooked big deal. Its the only way to correct for both panel misalignment and lateral color.

Jason, what were the methods you used for calibration? Are you talking DVE, etc., or a full on calibration like Wm and others do?

Chris
Also was this normal or high lamp mode?
I do a full calibration on the unit before measuring. I ranged from the lower 300's to upper 300's...similar to coldmachine (but there are some hours on this one as well). I no longer do measurements in my reviews so when it comes up please don't expect them. This was merely FYI.

The RS1 ranged but I found it to be more like 450-600 depending on the unit.
If not posting numbers on your reviews, why give them out at all?

Just curious as it doesn't seem to make sense.

I for one, as many others, would love for you to put them back in your reviews. It seems much to easier to compare reviews from the same reviewer.
The problem is one reviewer say Jason measures something and another reviewer say Greg measures something else. Why are they different? Because? Throw, measuring equipment, bulb age, yada yada. I do think that numbers between reviewers don't mean much but numbers do have some relevance between machines from the same reviewer.
Yeah but he just said from the same reviewer.
