After a full five years, and over 1700 hours on the original BHL5006 lamp, the second lamp exploded after one year, and a couple hundred hours. At $400 pop!, I can only hope that the third lamp's life is more like the first.


Any insights into why a projector lamp's life would end so prematurely, and what can be done to avoid a repeat occurance would be greatly appreciated.


JVC apparently does not warranty replacement lamps. Am I nuts throwing more money at this projector?


Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Not turning the PJ on and off multiple times a day, keeping in low power, etc are things that I have heard about. Having said that, I don't think any bulb should blow up after 200 hours...ever. Are you sure you received a new replacement bulb?

The lamp came from an authorized JVC retailer, Full Compass, who special ordered it from JVC.

Lamps are indeed warranted...typically for 60-90 days FROM PURCHASE DATE!


I would probably not put anymore money into it if you can afford to upgrade. The SX21 is a bit long in the tooth.
