JVC VCRs: 9900 or 9800?

480 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  GCG
Hi, everybody!

I've been doing some searches here and it seems that the JVC 9000 series is a good choice.

At this point in time both the 9800 and the 9900 are available. In your opinion, which one is better?

Thanks in advance for any help, comments or advice you could give me on this matter.

With out seeing some specs, and my experience with JVC, I would figure that the difference between the both would be a simple model change. No significant change that would warrant a concern about performance. Perhaps you can go to JVC.com and find the specs for both and see.
Thanks for your reply, Romeo1.

That's my problem... I cannot tell any difference between those two models by reading their specs or descriptions!

This is JVC's page for the 9900

And this is the 9800

The only thing that's evident is a difference in MSRP. The new model is listed at $100 less than the old model ($599.95 for the 9900 and $699.95 for the 9800). I'm wondering if they have stripped down the new model in order to reduce its price.

What do you think?

Two things I noticed that the 9900 has and the 9800 does not. Auto SP/EP Timer recording. This function will switch the tape automatically at a certain point from sp to ep depending on how much tape you have left for recording. I have this function on the JVC 7600 I don't see why it wouldn't be on the 9800 but it appears that it's not. The other thing is an AV COMPULINK. This allows the 9900 to work with other JVC PRODUCTS. Those items are the only things that stands out from each other. I would maybe goto to www.audioreview.com and see if they still do reviews. Check for the 9800 and 9900 if available and see. I was glad I got my 7600 after hearing the things the took out when they did the 7800.

That sounds like a nice feature!

That's what I'm worried about after finding out they reduced the MSRP for the 9900.

I've been searching all around trying to find a 9900 review, or better yet, a comparison between the 9900 and the 9800, but with no luck. :(

Thanks again for your help Romeo1

Romeo1,

I just found out that the 9800 has the Auto SP/EP Timer recording and the AV COMPULINK too, so the differences, if any, are still a mystery... :)

Perhaps it is just as you said: just a model change with maybe just a few cosmetic changes and nothing more.

I was hoping someone who had a 9900 could shed some light into this not so clear matter, but no luck yet :(
