After being dissatisfied with the color on my new Malata DVP-620, I decided to go ahead and try out the JVC-S500. While the color looks much better on the JVC, I'm wondering about some of the 'VFP' settings, specifically the 'sharpness' control.

I'm assuming this is a fairly standard edge-enhancement tool. On the lowest setting of '0', though, instead of simply turning the edge-enhancement off, it actually apears to *blur* the picture. With sharpness and VSM completely turned off on my Sony Wega, setting the JVC's sharpness to '0' makes the picture noticably softer than I have *ever* seen it before. This leads me to believe that the '1' setting may be equivalent to 'VSM off.'

Any thoughts on this? What do all you other JVC users have your sharpness set at?

Also, it appears that there's no way to turn off audio compression. Anybody found a way around this one?
