So it took me about 20 min to get my PS3 to ask for my screen size to let me know it went to 3d mode or what ever. Then I was checking to make sure something wasn't wrong with my receiver (old HK 354) so I plugged it all back in and I guess my HDMI cable broke cuz it was flashing and fuzzy even in 2D so I swapped it out and started Iron Man 3 3D and it shows some weird seal thing then asks for a language then plays the opening Marvel thing and the Paramount thing and then my TV just says no signal.....

So screw it went up stairs and got a stand alone 3D blu ray player plug it in and it says what the PS3 said in the beginning "This disk had detected that your 55" hi-end plasma doesn't have 3D cuz I'm smarter than you". So I did a software update and went into the settings and the 3D option says "ON" but is grayed out and still just goes to that message after I put my language.

Do I really need special HDMI cables or something?

So I have it running strait to the TV from my player with a Monster HDX1000 cable and it works. So do I need a receiver thats 3D capable?

The PS3 didn't work strait to the TV only this LG player

And whats with PS3's not playing digital audio from a 3D blu ray?

Hmm how did you find that post? Funny thing is I got the PS3 to go to 3D mode running through the receiver, but then it wouldn't play like that post said.

So now I need to drop like a grand on a new receiver and hope it sounds as good as this one.....

Why doesn't my PS3 work strait to the TV? and why are black levels awful in 3D? The picture is darker like it needs a gamma adjustment but the black levels are worse too.

Welcome to the world of 3D. The PS3 is a different animal when it comes to 3D as it only has HDMI 1.3 chips in it, through some firmware wizardry they got 3D to work. Your cheapest option is to get a 3D blu Ray player with dual HDMI out one to the receiver and one to the TV. A 1.3 receiver can't decode 3D HD audio because its in a different format that the second port on the player will convert it to. Or you need to replace the receiver and even then the PS3 won't play Dolby HD (in 3D) any way but it can play DTS HD. The PS3 might play some 3D games through your 1.3 receiver but never a blu ray that's because of the 1.3 chips in it. As for the dark picture look at setting like RGB limited instead of full or use YCBR, also note that the 3D glasses will cut up 50% of the light from TV.

Never scene a player with 2 outs, what kind have 2? Then the player will decode the audio rather than the receiver?

What the difference in audio formats? With the glasses off everything looks washed out to compensate but with them on everything is way dark anyway.

Sure optical would work fine but its not capable of DTS HD or Dolby HD or any 7.1 format. Panasonic and Sony to name a few for Players with Dual HDMI out and no they don't decode the audio just convert it to what the 1.3 HDMI receiver can decode. Some say Dolby Digital 5.1 is just as good if its available on the DVD.

Panasonic 3D Blu-ray players used to have this feature but I am not sure about their latest players. Some of the models with that feature included the BDT220, 300, 310, 350. There are other vendors who either do or did support dual HDMI outputs (Sony, Samsung, Pioneer), and if you've got the money I'd suggest an Oppo.

The point of this type of player is to send HDMI video directly to your display device with one output and HDMI audio to your receiver with the other. Older receivers can't pass through the HDMI 1.4 3D video signal from a 3D Blu-ray player. Audio decoding can typically be done by either the player or the receiver depending on your audio settings on the player.
