That’s what I figured. I do have the Panasonic 9000 player, so whenever I wanna watch a movie, I’ll just pop it in there.

Yeah, keep the disc player around for the time being since you have that existing library. Make your new movie purchases on the Kaleidescape. If you rebuy some favorites you already own on disc, wait for a promotion to do so. Eventually, you should find yourself naturally migrating over more and more.

Wow!
Invisible Man... What a soundtrack!!

Of all the rain scenes in all movies, this one put you right in it. Great use of surrounds. Throbbing bass. Incredible sound. Just incredible.

Just read that Apple signed an 15 year exclusive digital right deal with Sony for the new Tom Hanks movie "Greyhound." Presume this means no disc/KScape distribution. Shame, as the trailer looks outstanding...

Hopefully there's a carve out for direct to digital titles for a company like K, but this could be an issue going forward if more studios opt for exclusive arrangements

Or Apple needs to buy K....:)

Just because Apple got the Digital Rights doesn't necessarily mean that Greyhound won't be available on Disc. Sony is not stupid and they will always keep several distribution avenues open. Besides Sony has always been strong with Disc releases of its Titles.

Well it's a 15 year exclusive deal (minus China) $70M.

So until I see otherwise, this I have to take the word exclusive as just that.

You may be right but I hope not, as this would just start a nightmare for people who would be expected to pay all the different distributors to watch movies. It seems this would take away the convenience of one location to view content as most people prefer. All these different systems will cause a lot of people in general to become frustrated. It may even drive a good amount of customers away as they tire of every separate Company wanting their own distribution and expecting a bigger slice of the pie.

By the way, I got a laugh when I saw your bracketed wording of 'minus china'. Ha!

Well, it certainly is an issue already - way too many separate streamer fees, and a lot of exclusive content on each of them. Other than Netflix (for the wife and extended family) I don't pay for any other.

If K can broker deals to resell content, that would be ideal, but, is it "worth it" for Apple/Netflix/Amazon to bother relative to K's size. I hope so.

I think this is already an issue and one that continues to grow. We are seeing it more and more as what was once viewed as a way to get away from cable and their high priced bundles and now it is becoming a reality of batched content spread across services that are trying to capitalize on their IP. It is a double edged sword for sure. If there was only one streaming "service" to get all the content from, we'd have a monopoly and they could get away with a lot of bad things simply because they had the tap from which the content flows. To avoid this we have multiple services, but each has to find a way to be competitive in the market for survival, and no better way to do that then be the destination for the content you desire that you can't get somewhere else.

I see a lot of people in tech forums bitching about how the streaming world is becoming as bad or worse than the cable market they were trying to get away from. Personally I was hoping it would go more down the road that music did, with differing services offering (largely) the same content but you paid for the service that delivered the EXPERIENCE you wanted, rather than content being the limiting factor. But instead they seem to be doing the opposite and delivering the CONTENT as the driving factor. Could you imagine if music did the same thing and you needed to subscribe to multiple apps because app X has all the Sony records stuff and app Y has all the Warner music and so on? Yikes.

It’s indeed big change that COVID-19 brings and this thing will effect the theater chain when they fight against NBC universal and we see now other studio follow NBC such warner in SCOOB and now sony set an exclusive for apple+ platform and I think K will have also a benefit as most of us actually quarantined

I usually watch netflix or apple only for tv series not movies as invisible man i don’t go for PVOD on apple and wait for K copy and it was worth to wait as i get the movie full fat audio and video

Sure thing will change and hope k get there cut and I think they will as we see they are hard work these months and sure they will rewarded for there work

Just read WB is putting in another $20 million to finish the movie. My speculation is that with Covid-19 and movie production halted it became financially feasible and smart for WB to invest in Justice League featuring [email protected]@@ Coming to KScape I bet, too!

For the 1st time ever in the last month I bought zero discs or streaming movies (Vudu was my choice) - All Kaleidescape.
If K continues to bring more studios and immersive sound, sometimes higher quality transfers or improving the encode on a previously released title (Like they are doing on Blade Runner 2049), fast delivery 15 to 45 minutes (and price is improving also) - their movie store will start making money as more and more people do that.
I don't have to hoard movies - I just add them to my wish list and when we are ready to watch we just download the title quick.
I am not happy with no digital rights but I am Ok with all of the above enough to ignore that issue. Cheena (K CEO) did say in a recent interview that K is working on portability.
More volumes and the ability to deliver content in its full glory - K should target a buy out by say Apple and the founders can get their pay day.

The reason I decided to boycott the Kscape store until and unless it provides digital rights with its sales is that I jointly own my digital library with my daughter. Were it not for my sense of responsibility to buy titles that include digital rights, so she could see them too, I too would hold my nose, ignore Kscape’s digital rights problem, and buy content from the Kscape store. Alas, though, not yet, not yet.

Good input.
I have almost 1600 Digital Movies on VUDU - which I share with my daughter.
My daughter is graduating this week - luckily has a job lines up - Environmental Engineer (Sorry for bragging) - plans to stay with us for a year and save some money. She is my wine drinking buddy and movie partner so I am super happy.
You know, with K, you can have 5 systems - If you are feeling generous you can buy her a Stratos she can share your K library from her home anywhere in the USA - that is what I plan to do when she moves out.

Does it work where you get their content too?
