Kameo technical problem

I am playing Kameo, and I cannot seem to get the map to show up. It is turned on in my options, I clicked on the L joystick but nothing happens. I also do not have any other icons showing up on my screen like they show in the manual. Am I missing something? I am playing in 1080 if that matters.

I rented Kameo, played it at 1080i and could see the map and icons. You should see the A, B, X and Y button icon with the elements in the top right and a health bar in the top left. If not maybe there is an option to turn the HUD back on.

The map doesn't display in "dungeons", so you can only see it sometimes, even with clicking. As for the other icons, the manual lies. They don't all exist like it says (at least not all the time).
