Thought I have a very clean set up until I need to set up karaoke system and finding it so difficult. The set up as follows and hoping someone can provide inputs.


1. Family Room --> TV and speakers.

2. All the components - receiver, apple tv , blu-ray all are behind the wall. only one hdmi output is attached to tv. Now family room looks clean,


3. Now my kid started asking for Karaoke system and I am looking for the following setup. Correct me if I am thinking wrong.


a. buy two wireless mic. -

b. use youtube/online system to get songs and play them using iPhone - apple tv .


c. Question: How can I get sound from mic to apple tv (or receiver). Please share thoughts on wireless way rather than drilling holes on the wall is the last option. My biggest confusion is using Mic get the sound at the same time getting video on tv using apple tv


or should i rephrase my question as how can i use Apple TV as Karaoke System?

I would like to know this as well.  Everywhere I look, nobody knows anything lol.   From what I read so far, looks like microphones and apple tv don't mix.  So the only choices are a dedicated karaoke machine that hooks into TV (not apple tv) or something that connects to computer.

Well you could use something along the lines of Air Microphone;

But my guess is that you'll run into audio/video sync issues by using multiple sources for karaoke. You're probably better off with a complete system.

Place it behind the wall and connect it to a hdmi A/B switch. You will still only have one hdmi connection to the tv.

I would like to know this too....but I use PC to play song from youtube. I think you just need to buy wireless mic and mixer.


My main concern that I am looking for right now is that can I use floor standing home theater speakers for karaoke. I mean would they will be loud like karaoke speakers..also do I need to use center speaker channel and sub to get the loud sound of karaoke speaker.


Another thing is any mixer (I am looking) that has HDMI input/output.

there is new way to setup karaoke in your htpc, without any use of keyboard and mouse to control. check out the karaokeshell dot com site.

AppleTV HDMI-->screen
AppleTV toslink -->monoprice analog converter-->cheap PA System
Mics-->cheap PA system
PA system mixes mics with Apple tv (karaoke app or YouTube) --> speakers

PA system could be a "block rocker" or something more advanced like the smaller fender passport...

Wondering if anyone has figured this one out yet.....main issue obviously is mixing the mic audio with audio from apple tv. Can this work using a AV receiver and a mixer?
