I have purchased a used Movi M2000 DVD player which is basically a HTPC without the stress of getting it set up. It runs with TT, ATI, M-Audio and other HTPC items. Here is a link if you wanted to check it out http://www.movimagic.com/overview.html

I'm going to use it with a CRT projector in the future but for now it will just be used with my Mits WS-55819 RPTV. I just need to know the best resolution for watching DVD's. Mike @ Movi is going to give me one custom resolution so i need to know what will work the best. I think going with 720x480p is pointless but would 1440x480p or 1440x540p work better? Please remember my TV will only do 480p, 540p or 1080i and the interlaced resolutions will not work with this DVD player per Mike.

Are you sure that you can get native RPCRT scan rates from the M2000. You need 33.75 kHz (1080i or 540p) or 31.5 kHz (480p). The material at the link you provided makes no mention of the 720x480p or1440x480p modes you mentioned or for that matter any 480p modes at all.

In fact even though the blurb says that it scales to "High Definition TV resolution" it looks like the resolutions of the M2000 are mostly 4:3 with PC like timings primarily aimed at PC compatible front projectors. The only HDTV scan rate that the blurb indicates that it does have is 1280x720p 60Hz which I believe, unfortunately, the MITs 55819 won't accept (I remember not looking further into this set upon learning that it did not accept 720p material and convert into a native scan rate). Possibly the material at the link is incomplete as I find it hard to see how the builders would include all the resolutions listed and yet not provide a single 480p mode.

Since you indicate that they can give you custom modes I would select a 540p mode (e.g. 1920x540p) as the MITs can use it to best advantage of any progressive mode usable (it looks like a 1080i mode to the Mits) if the overscan is acceptable for media playback. Better I would inquire as to how they do it (likely powerstrip) and learn to do it yourself so you can set up anything you want later as their writeup suggests that this box contains a dedicated computer based on PC type components with a good HW or SW decoder/deinterlacer and standard video card running some customized version Win 98,CE, XP.(It mentions names like TheaterTek, Radeon etc.) w/o saying exactly what is in there). If it really is a Radeon they should in fact be able to setup a 33.75 kHz interlaced resolution for you including "res within a res" to minimize overscan for the Mits which should give the best media playback if it really is using TheaterTek. Are they offering an upgrade for TT2 which is now out?

good luck

Chindman,

Yes, they can set up any resolution you want on this setup. I think the reason you don't see more options listed is it might be pointless to run it at 720x480p or other 480p resolutions. Mike at Movi is honest and said your better off saving the money and getting a nice 480p DVD player. I got this one to be run with a CRT projector, but until then it will go on my Mits. Mike said it takes about an hour to get one resolution setup and then ships out a CD that will load. After the restart the new resolution will be set. I don't think he will give me any of the software or means to make my own settings, why buy from him then. I have decided to go with 1440x540p or 480p, i will change over to 1440x960p when the Marquee is up and running.

It is an ATI, I just don't know how to figure out which one. The serial number just tells me 32mb ATI. If you want to read about this go over to the "power buy" section and look at the Movi M2000, only 20 pages to read.
