KBHK UPN 44 SF Bay Area HD Movies from Paramount - Star Trek, etc.

Here are the upcoming films in:

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (May)

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (June)

Raiders of the Lost Ark (July)

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (August)

Star Trek V: Final Frontier (September)

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (October)

The Godfather (November)

The Godfather, Part II (November)

Wrath of Khan is already done. Search for Spock is coming up on June 12 at 8pm. TitanTV has the schedule but does not say HD. This has been the case for all of these films, so we are confident that it will be HD and most likely OAR.

Now that KBHK has improved the broadcast signal, these movies should be excellent! :)

You guys in the SFOSJ Bay area are lucky that your UPN station is owned by Viacom. NewsCorp, aka Fox, has a stranglehold on the UPN stations in the top 3 markets, New York City's WWOR, Los Angeles' KCOP, and Chicago's WPWR. Not sure about Chi-town, but WWOR and KCOP are still in SD.
It certainly seems strange to me that LA gets such a raw deal for HD, being that is the source for the most part...!

I watched the Wrath of Khan, although at the time there were a lot of dropouts on KBHK. They seemed to have fixed it so I look forward to the other movies, especially Raiders.
They were supposed to have the fix in place by the time they repeated Khan, but they didn't :( I also noticed that they tended to cut back to 4:3 pillarboxed too early on the commercial breaks during the Khan repeat...

It is great to see them fixing issues though, and all indications are that they want us to inform them on quality issues.

So feel free to post here if you see any KBHK quality issues.

Our raw deal came from the fact that FOX was able to buy the UPN in the top 3 TV markets, therefore running them in SD like their FOX network stations (before - now they're in 720p except WNYW). Usually networks tends to own their TV stations in the most populated markets; it's not the case with UPN though.
I hope the drop out issue has been fixed. I had many glitches on my Wrath of Khan recording as well as on my Blade recording, plays pretty good though when I use VLC media player.
The last wtwo episodes of Enterprise were pretty decent.

I think the first of the two had a single image drop out and the second the image was stable throughout...

It is hard to tell with the audio since the JVC DVHS has known issues with audio...

I just updated the date - it is June 12, not June 6 as I originally posted. Not sure how I got that messed up - possibly the partly sue to the problem where we non-US born types read dates backwards occasionally :)

In any case, Titan TV shows June 12, so not this weekend but the next.

Watching the 2 repeat episodes of Enterprise on KBHK yesterday, it seems they have fixed the problems. :)
Yeah, i noticed it they are airing it June 12.
Saturday they will be showing Star Trek III. Let's hope there are no issues and that way us that can record it will have a nice recording of it. then we would just need them to do 5.1 Surround.
Get your recorders ready - tonight's the night! :)

Damn! Missed it.(damn graduation party) How was it if anyone watched it. Have to wait for next weekends repeat.
I thought I missed the start of it too but luckily I had my Hipix PC turned on and it recorded.

I was doing a 1394 transfer off DVHS at the time and amazingly it seems that neither skipped a beat. I guess that I will see for sure when I look at it more closely...

In any case, it was OAR (and was even OAR on the SD feed from what I could see!).

Cheers!

Star Trek III last night look great! I haven't seen this on DVD, so compared to previous viewings in SD, last nights HD was vibrent and show in OAR.
Damn. Well, good thing it will get repeated next Saturday at 4pm I think. Thanks KBHK!
I will probably record it again since there was one commercial break that was really tight and there will be no way to clip it cleanly.

Also, they are dropping back to 4:3 too soon and we get a second or so of the movie in 4:3 just before the commercial break.

Still, it amazes me that we are getting these films in OAR 1080i at 19 Mbps! Kudos to KBHK!

If only WB, KQED, KGO and NBC (and KRON) would increase their encoded datarate...

Cheers!

That is true. Especially Kron's HDNEt programming, very compressed.
