Just picked up my buddies KDS R60XBR1 SXRD. Newbie here, obviously, is there a definite way to calibrate this tv? It is cable with Cablevision with HDMI cable input. Any advice input appreciated, thanks.

Also what is the difference with XBR sets and SXRD? Thxs.

You could adjust the display to taste just by eyeballing it. You might be pleased with the results, but it probably won't be very accurate. The next step up would be to read through the XBR1 owner's settings thread for other people's opinions and advice on adjustments. If you don't mind spending a few bucks, using the Digital Video Essentials or Avia: Guide to Home Theater calibrations discs seems to help most DIY'ers. A more expensive way to calibrate your display would be to hire a trained ISF calibrator with good calibartion equipment to adjust your display for you. The latter would be the most "definite" way to get the most out of your great display. AVS has a calibration forum too.

SXRD (Silicon X-tal Reflective Display) is Sony's trade name for their version of the LCoS Liquid Crystal on Silicon technology used to make the picture on your display. XBR (eXtra BRight?) is Sony's designation for their higher end displays regardless of what technology is used to make the picture.
