KEF Model 105.4 mains - practical?

597 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  blkwrxwgn
Just curious...I bot a pair of 105.4's many (25?) years ago for 2ch and still enjoy them. Can I successfully build a HT setup around them or is trying to find a match for older speakers like these more bother than its worth?

Those are very natural sounding speakers, with especially nice midrange response. If you can match a center channel speaker (good luck), they'll work fine. The 105.4 had a somewhat bloated midbass, and crossing out of them and using a subwoofer will make them even better. Headroom is limited by the lower range of that 4" Bextrene mid...be careful. Excellent speaker...

(The Kef 107 from a few years later was an astonishing full-range loudspeaker with possibly the best deep bass of any consumer loudspeaker at the time.)

Thanks. Of all the chatter here, there is only ONE post re: 105.4's. It (and you) pretty much echo my findings about trying to find a good center match. Hoping for a magic solution, I really do like sound they put out.
KEF isn't a name you hear to much on this site. It's too bad because they have been making amazing speakers for years.

The new Reference series is just damn sexy.
