Hi,

I wanted to upgrade my subwoofer Tangeant Evo E8, to something more sharp and punchy. All equiped with KEF (IQ50, Q600C, HTS 2001) and Yamaha Aventage RX-A2020, I am wondering what would best suit my system: KEF q400b or SVS SB-1000.

My system usage is 90% Movies/TV Series and 10% Music.

Any advice or suggestions ?

SB1000 offers bigger driver, more power, and lower FR. I own Kef Reference speakers but for subs I'd buy SVS. I've got two SB, 12+ and Ultra

If movies are prime concern and you have a large room I'd be looking into a better SB, or for a larger roo, PB or PC.

Another vote for SVS. How big is your room?

My room is 20m2 (252ft2). I think a SB-1000 is far than enough, isn't it ?

While certainly an improvement over your current 8" sub, I wouldn't consider the SB-1000 to have even close to enough output for that size room. If you can't spend any more than the SB-1000 price, you should definitely get the PB-1000 instead, although I would recommend the PB-2000 as a minimum for that size space.

The PB-1000 would also be my minimum in that room.

Are you kidding?

300w in a 20m2 room isn't enough ? My current tangent output 100w and for me it is more than enough. Any movies are already shaking the room, I can't imagine with 300.

Definetly at the same listening level, SVS will drive the bass more than well.

+1 for the PB1000 over the SB1000.  Wether it is 200, 300, or 500 watts is not the issue.  A smallish sealed sub will not have any where near the output of a ported sub in OP's room for 90% movies.  Remember, ported = great for movies and music, sealed = inferior for movies given two similar subs.

No. I'm not kidding. I've run an 8" sub in that size room, and then a 10" ported sub, and then a 12" ported, and now dual 18" sealed subs. I also own the SB-1000 that I used in another room. If you want to really know what a sub is supposed to sound like in a room that size, you need more sub. Right now, you have no idea

Your little tangent sub puts out mid bass, but nothing much below 35 Hz for movies.  You just don't know what you are missing yet if you have not heard a sub that can dig with authority to 20 Hz for movies.  I too thought an 8" HTiB sub and then a 10" Polk sounded great until I heard and felt the difference a true home theater subwoofer makes.  Save up for a PB1000....its the cheapest sub out there that will give a full, entry level, home theater experience imo.

You are right about subs, but in my case, I am a living in an apartment (roof top) I have neighbors below. I think the SB-1000 will avoid me conflict with the neighborhood.

IMHO the SB-1000 will be a great change regarding my Tangent EVO E8. Once, I'll have my own house, I will definitely move to a same setup than yours.

Being in an apartment the sealed sub certainly may be less intrusive to your neighbors, not sure.  Of course, with SVS return policy you could always grab both subs to demo them in house side by side.  Regardless it will be a nice upgrade for you over what you have.  Good luck!

FANTASTIC!!!!

Just received my SB-1000 and did the setup... The change is amazing regarding my Tangent...

And for the power:

- on the sub I am at mid volume

- on the receiver I have 0.5db gain on subwoofer level

- on the master receiver volume I am at -35db

The quality of the bass is simply phenomenal... Sharp and subtle..

THANKS SVS and to you guys to reply me.
