KeithR's Pick of the Month

1933 Views 23 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  oneobgyn
Ran across a great cd:

Renaud Garcia-Fons "Entremundo"

Very unique instrumental group with classical guitarists, a hell of a cello, etc. Many cool, esoteric kind of tracks that are extremely well put together.

Recording is magnificent, and so is the music!

Highly recommended. Definitely, something different.

Cheers,

Keith

Well if it is as good as all of your picks I am sure it is a "must have"

BTW Keith, Philip O'Hanlon is now usung Duende as a "go to track" in his demo disk for CES
Keith -

I will check it out. I did pick up your past rec: Talkie Walkie Air. Good tunes - although I didn't really care for the recording itself. Any other suggestions from the same genre?

A great demo track that I came across recently is from the Audio Physic CD/SACD sampler. The disc has 3 layers - CD, Stereo SACD and Multi-SACD. The 2nd track from the stereo layer, Mars by Dean Peer, is dynamic with brow raising dimensionality and imaging.
To Keith and Bugleboy et al ----

Here is an absolutely fantastic album that was sent to me this week by an AVS Forum member (Ron Party). Ron's claim that every track is a "go to" was right on the money. This album is a must have

Eric Bibb..."Friends"

Definitely worth a listen.

Definitely worth a listen.
Glad you enjoyed it. Those folks at Telarc sure know what they're doing.

Ron Party
Yep - I listen to classical primarily and Telarc discs rarely disappoint. It's too bad some of the best performances are on DGG - and rarely do those recordings impress.

One of my favorite Telarc releases is bassist Marcus Miller's M2, a Grammy winning album as well.

i thought it was a pretty decent recording, excluding the Telarc/RR cds that are equisite and not the usual. definitely not flat like a lot of rock recordings. i still prefer their older cd "Moon Safari" which i use for a bunch of demos

for the same genre, check out Zero 7 (i have been meaning to pick up to try myself) from I have heard if you like Air, you would like them....the older cds I have been recommended as better

I know Philip has impeccable taste so I would like to know more about this "Duende". Is that the title of the album or the artist?
It is the song. It will light up your system

Album is Black Light Syndrome
Duende was my best find at HE2003 :) Has become a reference for many, and is just plain enjoyable to listen to!

OB, you receive Entremundo yet?

Thanks for the heads up oneobgyn. I am adding it to my "must buy" list.

Keith--I got the album yesterday and played it through last night. Normally I give you a "10" for each of your picks because you have always been right on BUT this one didn't grab me like any of your other picks. It was just "OK". Maybe I wasn't in the mood but I finished off the evening by listening to your best pick "Duende"

I am still recommending the album that Ron Party sent me

Eric Bibb--Friends......absolutely well recorded. Every track is excellent.

On a non-Telarc note. have any of you folks with the extraordinary systems listened to Ray Charles Final albumn... "Genuis Loves Company" I was blown away by it. The song Sinners Prayer with Ray, BB and Billy preston on B3 and all of them going head to head is outstanding.

Great album, i can't speak to its quality in the high end though, although it sounded great to me.
I have and agree with you completely.

"Fever" with him and Natalie Cole is superb as is all of the others.
i was really impressed with the Norah Jones track. Mr Preston shines on that one.
Well I thought that I would revive this thread with my $0.02.

Just finished playing through Mark Knopfler's latest album

"Shangri-La"

If you liked Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler, this is an exceptionally well recorded album. Most every track is well recorded and well sung. His guitar, as always, is terrific.

Highly recommended for all Dire Straits fans.

I am a big dIRE sTRAITS and Mark Knopfler fan and will pick that one up this weekend. Out of his recent decade of work, I really enjoy his CD "Sailing to Philadelphia" the most.

Back in the day of the Brothers in Arms tour, he played 4 nights at Varsity Arena ( small ) in Toronto of all places, with Stevie Ray Vaughn as opening act. I also saw Knopfler as a member of Clapton's backing band when Clapton played in nearby Hamitlon many moons ago. All very cool moments !

OB, if you have "Love Over Gold" have you played "Private Investigations" through your system ?
