Kenwood DNX7100 / DNX7120 screen too bright at night

Does anyone else think that the DNX7120 screen is way too bright at night even with all the brightness/color settings all the way down and black up (can't remember if black up or down was darker)? The radio screen is about 30% too bright and the navigation about 50% even in night mode. I had a Garmin Nuvi 670 and it's brightness went much lower.

I hate bright lights at night as it hurts my eyes and in my opinion makes driving at night dangerous. I submitted a feature request to Kenwood online support to fix this in a software update we'll see how it goes.

In the meantime I am tempted to get a think piece of window tint or film and just put it over the screen at night.

Yes they can be very bright screens, however you can still turn off the display when you are listening or navigating. Just hold down the V.SEL button and the display will go off. Press the FNC or VSEL or NAV button on the unit to turn the display on again.

You can still control volume and seek functions with display off, and navigating by voice is not so bad either.

I do like that the screen is very bright but a wider range of illumination would be appreciated.
Thanks Ludacrisvp, I didn't know that just blanked the screen.
Moore, have you fone into monitor setup and set the lights on and lights off settingsa? I have my screen set to full bright with no lights and full dark with lights on.

This of course doesn't do anything for the lighthouse intensity of the Garmin nav at night. Setting to black night or pressing the off screen (as above) is the only solution...

I know what you mean. The leds are way too bright. Bright LED Shades makes an adhesive plastic that covers over the led to cut way down on the glare. Nice and sleek. And it pulls off without any sticky residue. Just a thought.  Direct link: brightledshades.com
