A friend of mine is trying to decide between getting either the RF-15's or the wharfedale diamond 8.4 speakers. The room he is using isn't too big about 13x15 and he has a Denon 1803 receiver. We are going to go listen to both of them this weekend.

I do have a couple of concerns though, I have read that Denons make klipsch speakers sound harsh, what experiences have you guys had with that?

The wharfedale's are suppose to be more "laid back" speakers, from what I've read. What exactly does that mean?

Are there any other speakers we should be looking at in the under $400 range?

" I have read that Denons make klipsch speakers sound harsh"

-This could not be further from the truth. You can go to the forum on Klipsch's website to check out everyone's gear. But BY FAR the most common manufacture name for a receiver is both Denon and H/K on that board. I run H/K but it is very very similar in smooth sound to that Denon your buddy has.

If he had Yamaha or Onkyo, I would be worried about the harshness.
