Klipsch RP-250S as Atmos speakers

I know they are not optimal choice. But my friend already has 4 lying around which he purchased a Year ago for some reason but have not used. So will they be fine as Atmos speakers. Because if not they will be wasted.

Nope. Atmos speakers should be directional, and not dispersed like bi-pole speakers. I would use them as surrounds or sell them.

Yes that is what I was thinking. But how much cutoff will I get if I cover half of the speaker and use only one side as directional speaker.

Edit: Yeah I guess he is better off selling them. It will be a loss but I guess it is better than wasting them.
I would say it depends on your ceiling height. I know that Dolby only recommends direct firing speakers for Atmos, but in my setup (7.2.4) I have a very low ceiling (205 cm or 6.7 feet) and I was not completely satisfied with my overhead sound. I tried multiple speakers, and in the end I tried hanging a pair of my Klipsch R-14S up in the ceiling as front height. It's MUCH better than anything else I've tried so far. It's all about sound dispersion, and the lower your ceiling is the more dispersion you need to get the desired effect.
