Klipsch has introduced a compact, all-in-one 5.1 surround-sound speaker system called the Reference Theater Pack ($999). The company pitches it as the easiest way to get into its Reference line of home theater-friendly speakers.
The Reference Theater Pack consists of seven items total. There are four satellite speakers and a center channel unit, and all are equipped with a 3.5" woofers and 0.75" aluminum horn-loaded tweeters. And for deep bass, it includes a down firing 8" ported 50-watt subwoofer (150 peak) plus a wireless transmitter.
This speaker kit offers the advantages of compact size and the simplicity of a prepackaged system where all you have to do is add an AV receiver and speaker cable.
As far as performance goes, the specs are as follows: This is an 8-ohm compatible speaker system where the satellites plus the center channel all offer a frequency response of 110 Hz to 23 kHz (+/-3 dB). The rated sensitivity of the satellites is 91 dB (1 watt/1 meter) and the sensitivity of the center is 94 dB. Power handling for the satellites is 50 watts per speaker while the center can handle 75 watts.
Compact dimensions are a main selling point of this system, with the satellites measuring 7.75" (H) x 4.38" (W) x 5.37" (D) while weighing 3 pounds. The center measures 4.38" (H) x 10.75" (W) x 5.37" (D) and weighs 5 pounds. Both the satellites and center feature integrated keyhole hangers as well as threaded inserts for easy and flexible installation. Up to 14-gauge speaker cable is accommodated by the terminals.

The included wireless subwoofer offers a frequency response of 38 Hz to 120 Hz (+/-3 dB) and a maximum output of 108 dB. in addition to the wireless connection, it includes line level RCA inputs (stereo and LFE). It measures 13.25" (H) x 11.75" (W) x 11.75" (D) and weighs in at 15 pounds.
Hopefully, it goes without saying that you can achieve performance that beats any home theater in a box type speaker system if you shop for separate speakers and subs—including offerings from Klipsch. But, in usage scenarios where this sort of prepackaged, compact system is an optimum fit, Klipsch's latest offering may represent an appealing option.
