Klipsch subwoofer: RT-10d or RT-12d for this sized room?

I'm trying to decide between the RT-10d & RT-12d for my den....Is an RT-10d sufficient for the room's size & characteristics or should I go with an RT-12d? The room is 21'x20' with a vaulted ceiling that I'm estimating is no less than 4600 cubic feet. Other room details are that it has two entryways on one wall that are 6.5'x5', a little open wet bar off one side that adds an additional 200 cubic feet that are independent from the 21'x20' den footprint, and a back corner staircase going up to attic.

Thanks!

Are you absolutely set on those subs? What is your budget? You can get alot more sub from internet direct dealers, such as Epik, ED, and SVS.

To answer your question, we'd need to know your listening habits. Do you want to listen at reference level, or just moderate volumes? IMO, the RT-10d won't have enough output for that room. The RT-12d might fare better, but I agree with spezzy that unless you're getting an absolute killer deal on the Klipsch's, you'll do much better ordering from an ID company like Epik, eD, SVS, or Hsu. Just my thoughts...

Listening at moderate volumes.

Are you guys advocating in favor of just a non-Klipsch Sub but feel the dollar value of the rest of the Klipsch reference series isn't so bad?

Thanks,

Jon

jonsteelman,

Klipsch subs, especially the rt10, rt12d, and rsw10d have excellent build quality and ultra heavy duty drivers. If you want to spend your money on performance AND elegance then go ahead and buy them. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. At 4600 cubic feet both will do well but of course the larger would do better. To go heavier than those subs, then an alternative choice would be Paradigm's Servo 15 version 2, and just skip the Seismic 10 and 12....Klipsch's top two look a lot nicer. Going more expensive is not necessary. As lalakersfan mentioned, SVS is another alternative that is well priced. If you buy Klipsch you'll be happy just the same.
