Well, Krell has apparently weighed in on subwoofers, though this may be old news.

Saw on their website the following model:

Master Reference Subwoofer

Specially Tuned 2600 Watt Krell Amplifier

Produces 120dB sound pressure level at 20Hz

Dual 15 inch woofers

Programmable digitally controlled crossover with 5 memory settings for slope, frequency, filter parameters

"Advanced comparator circuit for input-synchronous driver control, eliminating the performance limitations of conventional negative feedback servo systems"

One inch solid aluminum chassis

Perhaps someone like TV can interpret for us. Now, get this:

Dimensions:

18.8w x 20h x 29d in.

Weight: 420 lbs. That's right, FOUR HUNDRED TWENTY POUNDS.

Imagine the fun of moving it around for proper positioning.

Twenty six THOUSAND?

No wonder they don't have the MSRP plastered on the website. Well, Krell has never been one to be shy about price.

Regardless of how good it might be, it's hard to conceive of any price for performance benefit. I'm sure it sounds the best of any sub ever created, but not by almost 20k.

For a turn key solution to a real tweakable, real powerful subwoofer...the Krell seems to fit the bill. If I hit the lotto,

I'd probably get one to play with....and then DIY a sub for about

1/10th the price that would make the krell pee on itself.

Hard to make guesses about the performance of a unit like this, but I'd reckon a pair of SW12s would give it a run...and I'm sure a pair of HGS18s could hang.
