I bought the sony kv-34xbr800 for $2499 plus tax from tweeters and will have it delivered in a few days. I have found better prices on web. What is the best price including shipping on the web that you guys have found? I doubt tweeters will price match but I bet they will lower their price. please help!

 ShopSunshine $1,919.99

A note of caution ... I've seen some posts from people that have had 'issues' ordering from ShopSunshine. But for price-matching ... well, it certainly is a low price.

Also, at the very least Tweeters should price-match any authorized (on line or off) dealers. Crutchfield is an authorized dealer ... and their price would be $2499 no tax, free shipping. At Tweeters you're paying tax so ...

I bought from Tweeters and was able to get them to come down quite a bit on price (although I was price-matching another local B& M store).

I bought from ShopSunshine for 1919.99 and have had some second thoughts about whether I did the right thing.

First off, the convergence and geometry were poor and not correctable using the service menu. So I called Sony and got a service tech to come out and take a look. He was able to make a big improvment, and I'm feeling much relieved now. Since I'm in California, there really was no way I could return the set.

SO... although I saved a few hundred dollars (maybe), I realize I took a chance. And you have to think about the possibility that you'll get a lemon. This set is pushing the limits of what can be done in a picture tube...

That said, I'm very happy with the picture now.

I bought mine at a local A/V specialty store for $2200. Not the best price, and they charged $49 for shipping. I also had to pay tax. But the store is only 2 miles away from where I live, and fortunately my TV came to my door with almost perfect convergence & geometry. So I'm pleased.

If you order from out of state like I did, you are essentially giving up the chance to replace the set if you don't like the picture quality. Sony won't do it, only the retailer. Sony will replace parts, even if it means a new picture tube, to try and solve the problem. The idea of having to do major repairs on a brand new 34XBR is a real downer.

My problem is not with ShopSunshine -- they were OK -- it's with having the unit shipped.

If you can make a decent deal with a local store you have the peace of mind knowing that you won't have to accept less than what you expected.

On large, expensive, breakable items, the risks associated with shipping are usually not worth saving a few hundred bucks.

There's a reasonable chance of breakage during shipping. Although insurance will cover this, do you want to deal with the hassle and have to wait even longer for your set? Additionally, if problems develop after your TV arrives, you can't return the item for all practical purposes.

If you're strapped for cash, negotiation or waiting for a sale is a much better bet. A good dealer should knock a little of the MSRP.

As an ex salesman retail electronics it always amazed me when people

would say " I am worried about shipping,is it safe) these things are

shipped all over the world before it gets to the store.Weather it is

made in japan in Mexico it had to get to the store first. Of course

when I buy something I am concerned when it gets to my house

I would never want to return a huge TV, if it arrives broken any money

I was trying to save just went out the window plus all the time and

energy spent. I live in N.Y.C which means one can pretty much get

a good deal on just about anything. What I myself have decided when

I buy things is first I want the best price from a dealer who gives refunds

but what I think is really important that alot of people over look is I

try to keep the money I spend in my community I think this is

really important and I am always surprissed that I don't see more of this

just my 2 cents

P.S J&R $1999 plus shipping.

But freight shipping large quantities on pallets is a whole lot better/safer than UPS or FedEx . The former is set up to deal with these kinds of items, whereas the latter is not.

Even if you think shipping isn't risky, the inability to exchange a defective item still isn't worth it.

Did you check goodguys.com. There is a 10% off code right now and you get free shipping and no tax. authorized dealer too. They do charge full price though but you do get 10% off that and no tax or shipping charges which is not a bad deal.

EDIT:

I just checked the website. It's not listed there. I don't know why not. They sell them at the B&M store. You may want to try calling just to be sure.

I have read some bad reviews about shopsunshine.com but I ordered my 36XBR800 from them and they were great. It took a little more than a week which was not bad at all considering I had it shipped somewhere besides my billing address. I called them about every three days just to see how things were going and they were always prompt about e-mailing me with an updated status. I really think they are trying to put their reputation back together. I would have no problem buying from them again.

$2499 is the MSRP on this set. If you pay that for the set the retailer is making about $750 off of you.

You should be able to get it for around $2000 which is a 20% discount.

If your brick and mortar store will sell it to you for $2200 they are taking about $300 off or about 14%.

The XBR910 will be out in July, why not wait a few more months and they will be closing this set out.
