I just got my 300U today and I have a quick question regarding the internal line doubler. (yesterday I tested the my toshiba SD-5109 vs my neighbors Denon 1600). The 1600 came out the winner, hands down in terms of picture quality. Now when I'm using the progressive out from the player to my 300U, it does say 520P. The question is: Is the projector using it's own chip to deal with the progressive image, or is it using the DVD player's.

I think it says 525p (which is 480p really).

It means you are feeding a progressive NTSC signal to the L300U and it (the proj) does not do any de-interlacing (line doubling).

What it has to do is scaling because you are feeding a 720x480p (or 525p) to it and it has to scale that to 960x540 which is the resolution of the LCD panels. If you switch the AR to S16:9 you will see the progressive video unscaled.
