Lags that are supplied with my Sanus wall mount are 2 and a half inches long. However my wood studs are only 2 and half inches deep (and 1.5 inches wide). My drywall is 5/8 and after the wall mount and washer, the threads will probably travel 1.75 inches into my wood stud. I plan on pre drilling the full depth the bolt will travel with a 3/16 bit per Sanus spec and using the Sanus lag (metric?) or the 5/16 stainless I have. Since I'm predrilling, do I not need to worry about how far into the wood I'm drilling, could I drill all the way through (not that I plan to) and still maintain the wood stud integrity? I don't want to weaken it by using too long a bolt but worry that choosing a smaller length than provided will reduce holding power. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.
