This is it folks. HDTV comes USA mainstream in 2003.

They don't say what modulation they'll use.


they'd have to pipe 8VSB --untouched from the broadcaster- to make everyone happy.


If it's 256-QAM (the cable standard), people will still need a converter box regardless. Things will be better when dual 8VSB/256-QAM tuners hit the market at a reasonable price.
256-QAM, HDMI on cable and a lot more HD content is all that's needed to make the transition work. On the bright side for AVS, this site will have 100 times the present participants. Also, present HDTV owners can receive a good tax deduction by donating their analog-connected units to charity. Besides, no more qustions here on multipath reception OTA issues; just, "When will my cable operartor deliver HD?."
