Hi there,

I'm building a 12.5' x 20' x 7.5' "room within a room" home theater in my basement. What order of materials should I use for the walls to achieve highest STC? I'll be using R13 batts in the walls & ceiling and a generous amount of acoustical chalk throughout. My primary goal is to keep the bass contained.

Key:

=====

Metal Studs (s)

homassote (h) - also will be used as a subfloor between concrete floor and carpet padding

30# roofing felt (r) - already have enough purchased for two layers

5/8" drywall (d)

Option One:

S R R H D

Option Two

S H R R D

Option Three

S R H R D

Option Four...????

Adding a second layer of drywall or homasote is an option, but hopefully not necessary.

Thanks!

- T

BTW - I'll be using 20' long metal "struts" as a second set of ceiling joists, so the interior room will be touching nothing except the poured concrete floor.
