Layout Advice Wanted - Preliminary Sketch Attached

Trying to get by 'on the cheap' (I mean inexpensively)

Attached is a sketch of my basement. I am wondering if a curtain on the right side (as shown) to separate the HVAC & WH would be a reasonable alternative to building an actual wall. Budget and time constraints would prevent me from putting up studs and drywall at this time, so I am checking my options. I have already gotten a quote from Mike-ASI for a roll of Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) 5' by 30' and some panels for the block walls(Thanks Mike).

I was thinking of placing a commando cloth or duck cloth in front of the MLV for aesthetics and light control (I have a projector) and Mike suggested placing a few panels on the curtain. I realize that it would not be ideal but I am looking for low cost solutions.

If anyone has other suggestions, I would love to read them.

Thanks,

Thanks, Ethan. Good point about the HVAC noise. I figured that would probably be best thing to do - I was just hoping for something simpler (less effort - darn laziness!).

On another note, if I put the wall where the curtain is on the sketch, would the room be too small - roughly 8' by 13' (ceiling at about 7.5')? I will probably only have a love seat against the back wall and a couple of beanbags in front for the kids. Or would it be better to turn the wall to the right near the stairs and have a somewhat of an L shaped room. I figured the rectangle would be better acoustically.

Thanks again for the response.
