I have seen the posts about calibration for the D-ILA and, recently, DLP which, among other things, afford a measurable improvement in contrast ratio. Is there such a thing for LCD projectors?

The dila being origionally designed by hughes electronics

for the goverment has tons and tons of adjustments, black

level, white level, and gamma. A tweakers dream.


Some if not all of the dlp's have adjustable gamma too.


Of the lcd projectors i own both of which are made by sharp

there are only two adjustments on each panel, esentially a

black level and a gain. Similar to low end crt projectors.

So there is little room to adjust stuff.

I have had 2 LCD Projectors (sharp 99u and sony 10HT) and each have been fully ISF calibrated, except for the registration of course, and both looked much better. Really though, because of the limited adjustments for regstration (read convergence), the only thing that can be done is color calibration. But with proper calibration the Sharp and the sony have colors with punch and blacks that, while are not true black, are not destracting during the movie. In short I recomend it, you spent so much for the projector in the first place what is a couple hundred more if you can get the best color possible.

Wow! This is a blast from the past. I thought someone had busted in as me until I read the date. As it turns out, the VT540 has lots of adjustments. I am very pleased with its flexibility, but still wonder if there is a hidden set of menus that, given appropriate knowledge, could further my projector's abilities.
