My room and screen have a very similar configuration, so I've been researching projectors that will and won't work at that distance. Here's what I've found will work:

  1. Sony VPL-10HT/11HT
  2. NEC LT150z
  3. NEC LT154/155/156/157/158
  4. JVC G10/11/15/20
  5. Toshiba TLP-MT7
  6. Sanyo XP21
  7. Optoma H55
Here's what won't work:
    1. all the new Panasonic LCD projectors
    2. Sanyo PLV-60HT
    3. Infocus 110/Boxlight 12SF
Hope this helps.

If it's EXACTLY 17' from lens center to image center (on the screen), then no, the PLV-60HT won't do it. It's less than 1/4" off, but for all intents and purposes, I'd keep it on your short list.

If you can move the pj forward a couple of inches, of if your initial measurement wasn't exact, it will probably work.

I've got a 92" wide screen with a 17' throw, so I'm actually in a little worse shape than you. All the projectors I listed as workable are ok for me, so they should be able to zoom in to your 96" wide screen, assuming of course their documentation is correct.

thanks a bunch guys.

It looks like I'l be going with the sony.

The distance is actually 202" which translates to 16.83333 ' so I think I'm just under the wire.

Just caught this thread. That's funny! My projector is exactly 202" from a 16:9 96" wide screen. I'm using a Sharp DW-XV100U, FWIW. It could even go a foot or so further.

I agree with Jim. I always go to the manufacturer's web site to find an actual throw chart or the users manual. They're usually not too hard to find, and they give other useful information also, such as vertical offset.

People repeatedly blindly quote this source as though it were authoritative. I have found it to be inaccurate for several models and frequently contradictory of manufacturers' published specs. You should probably start with the user's manuals (where available) and check actual demo units or get referrals from current owners.

The 11HT can be between 10' 4" & 11' 11" to project a 96" diagonal

They do have a long throw lens - it isnt cheap & i am not sure how much more distance you get
