Hello. I have a question regaurding LCD screen cleaners. Basically, before I spend as much time looking for a good brand as I did the HDTV I'll be using it on, which is best?

Ive heard that ammonia and alchohol can harm the screen, and have owned a 22" PC monitor for nearly 8 months which I only had to clean (with more than a Swiffer!) after a christmas party where someone sneezed, belched, or coughed on my baby. I won't mention the fingerprints. That is taboo, you never touch my lcd!!!
Well, even with the spatters and fingerprints, the screen still looked better turned on or off then it did after I broke out an LCD "wet wipe" to clean it. I mean COME ON! When the screen dried it was so streaked that calling it streaked was an understatement!!! It was SMOKED! (Not to mention the damned wipe was so wet I had to wring it out or it would have dripped all over for sure!) I thought I had ruined my pc monitor!
It took me 25 minutes rubbing with a soft dry cloth to get rid of the "streaks".

Can anyone PLEASE tell me how to avoid this? I don't think I can stand wracking my brains out over a screen cleaner like I did over which HDTV to buy, and I don't want to spend money on crap that doesn't work and could potentially harm my new baby.

Thanx in advance for any advice!

I just bought a 630 series 46" Samsung from hhgregg. When I asked about cleaning the screen the salesperson told me to buy this spray & cloth- what a POS ($30.00 + 7% IN sales tx
)! It left streaks and drove me insane! I had some wipes for my LCD laptop and tried it- it did a heck of a better job!I just made sure that the tv was off and cooled! Much, much better and no anguish!

I bought the 30$ monster cable spray crap too (damn I hate monster cable)
. Indeed it left some gooey streaks. I trash the cleaner but kept the microfiber towel and only use a little bit of water and it does a great job. IMO microfiber tower are the best because they will not scratch the bezel or the screen or left particule! Do not use "heavy" cleaner or anything with amoniac.

Can anyone recommend a screen cleaning spray/kit for an LED screen that actually works? I’ve tried several bottles but they just leave smear marks all over the screen. Many thanks

@vihak The safest way to clean a tv screen is with warm, distilled water and a high quality microfiber cloth. A lot of bottled screen cleaners contains solvents of various kinds which may react with any anti-glare covering that the panel has and may, in time, leave haziness on the panel. For stubborn smears you could try a high quality eye glass cleaner that is made for UV coated eye glasses. Even those have some sort of chemical additive. Just use it on a small area first to see how well it works and don't press hard with either method.

I rarely clean my panels (OLED and QLED) but we don't have little children who can touch the panels nor do we live in a smokey environment. For the occasional dusting I just use a clean Swifter Sweeper, non-scented refill.

I make my own:
Get an Aluminum Spray bottle, like what Hair Stylists use, then off to a CVS store, getting a bottle of distilled water, and a bottle of 90% Isopropyl alcohol.
Mix the Alcohol with the water, and you have years of Screen cleaner that works. Been using this for 20+ years.😎
Cost is about $12 for 2 Gallons, incl. the Spray bottle from Amazon. And, as others have mentioned, use a good quality microfiber cloth, Costco has them cheap.

Edit: I realize this is a very old Thread, but this is still valid.

Ratio of the water to alcohol?

If you’re really bothered by streaks, besides a decent cleaning solution, you need two or more microfiber cloths. The first one is to apply the cleaning fluid and do an initial pass with the cloth to evenly spread it. The goal is not to eliminate all of the liquid. The second cloth is to take off the excess spray and dry the screen. If you’re only using one cloth, once it’s even mildly wet, all you’re doing is pushing the liquid around and it will result in streaks. If you’re cleaning a large tv, you might need another drying cloth in case the first one gets too wet.

I would try the warm distilled water and a clean microfiber cloth first. The alcohol/distilled water mixture will work but if your panel has an anti-reflective coating on it, there may be an interaction with the dilute alcohol over time. Water-only is the absolute safest. If you have the "peanut butter" smudges on your panel you can also try a high quality eye glass cleaner on a small area to see how it will work. Most good quality eye glass cleaners are made for uv protected/anti-glare lenses so they should be safe for your panel.

I had to start wearing glasses at age 40, been through many pair since then, and also been through many cleaners, cheap and expensive.

The water, alcohol, and liquid soap solution works for my glasses, quite well, I have used it on my tv screens with no problems.

small spray bottle
1/4 alcohol
1 dab of soap
fill with water.
always shake before use

micro fiber cloth is good, I use a very soft cotton towel.

Never rub hard or in one place too long.
