lcd TURNS OFF in hdtv mode

1264 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  b1gs
I just started using a farily new sharp aquos lcd tv. I dont have cable or sattelite at the location yet, and noticed the tv works funny. Ive noticed after about 2 weeks of use that while in OTA hdtv mode the tv turns off after about 10-20 minutes of use. it turns on by itself and off again after a few minutes. after the third time this happens it stays off and the power/OPC lights flash.

However when i watched the tv in regular analog mode it worked fine for hours, also i watched several movies thorugh a DVD player and it also worked fine.

anyone ever here of this problem?

i checked the signal strength and it was fine.

thanks

First I would check to see if it has some sort of power saving mode activated to turn off when signal strength is weak or lost. You could be having intermittent signal strength problems with the HD signal.
i had checked to see if the power savings mode was on, and it was not. Also i almost at perfect signal strength, according to the unit.

I double checked my theory and was right.

the tv works fine in regular analog broadcast tv mode and while playing a dvd player, but fails to work for longer periods when in high def OTA.

Im thinking that maybe because of higher intensity light the monitor creates in high def that the unit overheats maybe?

i have not tried to watch any other forms of HD through the TV, so i can also hook up my PS3 and see what happens. dont have access to cable or satellite yet.

also, i was able to access my service menu on the unit and noticed it had a MONITOR ERROR CODE 11, and i have no idea what it means.

i was thinking of reseting or upgrading the menu/firmware, but dont really think it will fix it.

....I doubt that is the cause

would you tell us the make/model of the display?
sharp LC-46D64U

but NOW, it does not turn off by itself, what happens is the screen freezes in a frame after about 5-10 mintues in use and the only way to turn off the tv is by unpluging it from the outlet.

absolutely no problems when its in any lower resolution than 1080.

I tried to play a blu-ray movie from my ps3 and the tv would not recognize it. but i could play ps3 games. but they are not 1080i/p.
