I just got a 22 in LED LCD 1080P TV to use as both a TV and monitor. It has worked fine as a monitor. I would think the plain monitor version would look as good. HD looks very good. I would say you will do fine with your choice.

To keep the same screen height you're looking at a 25" - 26" monitor. It will run you about $300 or so for something that size. With widescreen monitors much of the space on the sides is wasted because many web pages are still written for 4x3 monitors. Widescreen monitors are great if you have multiple windows open side by side minimizing wasted space or for multimedia.

I went from a CRT flat screen Dell Trinitron to my 2007 720p Samsung 32" LCD and it's perfect for me. It's a huge improvement when you want to watch videos, movies, or TV shows. No complaints except that the PIP feature only works with analog signals.
