LD Movies NOT on DVD (besides SW)

1205 Views 35 Replies 29 Participants Last post by  H8nXTC
Well, I just got an LD player (cld-d704!), the SE box set of Star wars and a couple others. What are some movies that are only on LD and not on DVD? This is the reason I got the player because of Lucas! I can't wait until 2006 or whatever to see my Star Wars and hear it in 5.1

Thanks!

Well, of course you have to add the Indiana Jones trilogy and the Back to the Future Trilogy. We will see BTF trilogy in 2002 but I doubt Indy.

I would also pick up the THX WOW disc. This LD is just awesome! It shows clips from the Star Wars movies, Indiana Jones movies, and Willow.

The box set of E.T. is also great. It will be out in 2002 but it is not confirmed if we will get the original version too.
...also add any number of 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, 1950s and 1960s movies, including (e.g.) --- from MGM the THIN MAN series (six movies), movies starring GRETA GARBO, such movies as MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY (both versions), THE GOOD EARTH, MARIE ANTOINETTE, the original BEN HUR, NORTHWEST PASSAGE, sumptuous MGM musicals (THE GREAT ZIEGFELD, ZIEGFELD GIRL, ZIEGFELD FOLLIES, MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS) --- from RKO the ASTAIRE/ROGERS musicals --- from COLUMBIA the two musicals pairing FRED ASTAIRE and RITA HAYWORTH and the lovely Ms. Hayworth in COVER GIRL and DOWN TO EARTH and THE LOVES OF CARMEN, and how about MY SISTER EILEEN (both versions) --- from TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX the BETTY GRABLE musicals and THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR and LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN and ANNA AND THE KING OF SIAM and CAPTAIN FROM CASTILE and FOREVER AMBER and the MIGHTY MOUSE and HECKLE AND JECKLE cartoons --- from PARAMOUNT movies starring MARLENE DIETRICH, GINGER ROGERS in LADY IN THE DARK, movies by CECIL B. DE MILLE and POPEYE cartoons --- from WARNER BROS. the DORIS DAY MUSICALS and RHAPSODY IN BLUE and THEY DIED WITH THEIR BOOTS ON and DESTINATION TOKYO and DAY AND NIGHT and GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933 and I AM A FUGITIVE FROM A CHAIN GANG and THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD and the LOONEY TUNES cartoons --- ORSON WELLES' version of MACBETH --- ROMAN POLANSKI's version of MACBETH --- the BETTY BOOP cartoons... and... and... and...

. . . sigh . . .

:)! Welome to the order of the big discs! There are thousands of LDs not on DVD. That number will diminish some over time presumably...? Old films from the 20's thru 50's are well represented on LD and scantily on DVD. Much of the popular music on LD won't come to DVD, because it isn't "popular" any more. LD had a huge catalog at it's peak.

Here'some films stille not out yet:

SERGEANT YORK

BACK TO THE FUTURE

THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD

UHF

THEM

VALLEY OF THE DOLLS

SINK THE BISMARCK

PINK FLAMINGOS

THE JAZZ SINGER (1927)

THE SWIMMER

ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS

INDIANA JONES ect...

GUNGA DIN

WINGS OF DESIRE

SCHINDLER'S LIST

20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA

Glengary Glenrose! **** man, I forgot that is not on DVD (and I don't anticipate it coming anytime soon IMO).

I LOVE DTS and WANT that stagate! Gotta save some cash! I just got the player, the fliks mentioned, and a bunch of canare cables so I am BROKE right now......SOON!

I must warn you that although STARGATE DTS is a great sounding LD, it's pic quality is so-so IMO. Some of my fav DTS LDs would be MULHOLLAND FALLS, AUSTIN POWERS, and THE JACKAL. MR. HOLLAND'S OPUS is another DTS LD which I don't recommend, it's pic is worse than STARGATE's. Get JURASSIC PARK on DTS if you like the film, it's an all-round good'un. Best wishes!
Lets not forget the greatest LD

soundtrack ever recorded.......

Casper (DTS)
how 'bout:

L'Amant (the lover)

The Gods must Be Crazy

The Gods must Be Crazy II

Jackie Brown and Bringing Up Baby are already out on region 2 DVD.

I own Bringing Up Baby and it's a nice transfer.
