Having trouble deciding about this one, so I need your opinions.

Is there any reason NOT to buy this Leeza, other than its price? (Which seems reasonable, and it comes with a RP-56 as an extra.)

Will the Leeza really give me a better picture overall than my onboard scaler, the AVM?

And having purchased this very flashy and expensive piece of equipment in order to get DVI, am I going to lose out in a few years, when DVI is altered for copyright issues, etc.?

Inquiring minds want to know.

The answer is that it depends on what you want..

The moded RP56/Leeza with DVI blaster is a great combo...

KD assures me that they will take care of all their customers as the DVI will change...

And from my personal experience with Mike T and the gang... I stand behind them 110%... as I am sure ericbee would too..

Will you get a better picture? That is a subjective question.. I would have to say yes, just via DVI and having a full digital throughput...

is it going to aid your satelite/TV watching...

perhaps if you get an sdi moded sat reciever as well.

Now that the prices have dropped... they are even better...

you now get a scaler with modifiable software upgradability (unlike Faroudja) for around the same price as a Native Rate that Can do upto 1080p, DVI, SDI, and throw in a moded RP56... the mod alone is a few hundred bucks..

If its not going to hurt your pockets... I say go for it...

I would also ask ericbee... and see what he says..

SDI DVD into the Leeza and output thru DVI will make you a believer, that I can promise you. I have stated many times that AVM is the best INTERNAL scaler available in plasmas but, it cannot hold a candle to the better EXTERNAL scalers like Faroudja and KD.

Of course, the problem I'm having is that I bought the Fujitsu with the idea that I wouldn't need an external scaler at all. If I buy the scaler, then I really should have a Pioneer plasma to go with it, and that's what I should have bought in the first place. It's a psychological dilemma more than anything. I've already spent $10,000. Arggh!

Thanks for your help, anyway.

That isn't necissarily true...

All panels have their pro's and cons... and the infamous ericbee is right... the internal scaler is the best..

I agree that you will get a better picture hands down... but is that $ worth the extra money? Thats a personal decision

IMHO , would have been for the pio just from their card based DVI approach.. But pq for pq on stand alone units cant touch the faroudja...

Its a tough choice to weigh all the pro's and con's when comparing apples, oranges, to graps and an ocassional bannana that can hurt if stuck in the wrong place.. (LOL)

I cant say that you made a bad decision by any means, the Fuji is a great peice..

I really want to see what the new 60's are like in 1:1

This will sound really crazy, but I don't really need the Leeza scaler. All I'm really looking for is a way to get digital picture from a DVD or a cable decoder box into my plasma via the DVI port. What I really need is a DVD player with DVI. Is that so wrong?

DFletcher,

Other than LEEZA, HTPC is the only other way to do this. Both ways are expensive, and the HTPC adds lots of complications to the mix. I think I would have to agree that a DVI capable DVD player is ultimately the way to go (assuming it can produce native rate!).

Fat chance we'll see anything like that in the near future (not for a reasonable price, that is). I am not sure I'm partial to Faroudja's method of implementing this one.

I know a lot has been written on the DVI issue from a copyright stand point. But I would like to better understand picture quality. Some of the latest plasma's have a picture good enough that they have my attention. Soon the DirecTV STB's will have DVI connectors that will be able to connect to next generation plasma displays (DVI). Will this make each pixel addressable? Will this be a small increase in picture quality or will it be very significant?

I think the thread starter already mentioned the free DVD player.

You're right. Double hit on the head for me (for not seeing it in the post & not noticing it on the website before).

BTW, does this deal apply to someone buying it from any dealer or just directly from KD?
