I can't believe that I'm asking something that sounds this simple,

and probably is. But here goes:

How do you get back to the live buffer after viewing a recorded

program? Example: Last night, I had X-Files set to tape. It wasn't

padded. I started watching it about 15 minutes delayed, so I could

skip past the commercials. When the program stopped, there was still

about 2-3 minutes that I didn't see (very end of show, previews &

credits). Since the channel hadn't changed since the end of the show, I assumed that after it was done recording the event,

it switched back to recording what was on that channel in it's live buffer. This means that my missing 2-3 minutes were sitting there waiting for me. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to get there. The only way I could view that channel was to go to the channel guide and select it. Of course, this reset the live buffer and all was lost. Anyone have a solution for me?

Mike!!!! Nice seeing you here buddy!!!!!!!

This would be a great enhancement. I guess I'm putting my vote in.

Please note: I do not live in Florida, therefore my vote should be counted because I work in Milwuakee & was paid a pack of smokes for this vote.

Thank you.

ReplayMike,

One would think that live recording puts more wear and tear on a disk than the disk sitting idle (but spinning). Is this not true?

Since I now have 2 machines and thus disabled disk spindown on both, when I don't plan to watch, I sometimes start play on a recorded show and then pause it with the intent to stop live recording that I wouldn't care about. I'm hoping it helps the life of the disks.

I raise it in light of the idea to start live recording after a scheduled recording ends. There may be a tradeoff to consider.

Hey Mike:

Welcome Back!!!!!!!!!

Let me fill you in on what you missed. The abridged version is that the natives got more restless, raw meat was thrown into the cages disguised as a Showstopper upgrade, and now, meal in their bellies, the natives have taken a nap fully sated. The unabridged version is too painful to recount. (On second thought, maybe recount isn't such a good word right now.)

BTW, you can all say what you want about Florida, but at least we're sure that we voted for the winner, http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

As to the original post (what was that again), What happens when halfway through a program you decide to record the program. Does the recording start from the beginning of the program, or just at the point where you start recording (assuming that live TV was being shown by the Replay from the beginning of the program, of course)?

If it won't produce 500 watts per channel through a direct short, you need more power.

Actually, it doesn't start recording the live buffer again until you tune to a live channel. If a recording ends and you're not watching it "live", recording simply stops. I'll take your comment as an enhancement request. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

Glad to see you here Mike! Thanks for the info, and, er, yeah, it was a feature request. Yeah, that's the ticket!

(Really? It just stops recording? I thought this sucker recorded everything, all the time. If you have a moment (and it's simple enough), could you list the situations where it sopts recording? Believe it or not, you've done something almost impossible. Made me feel less of a dolt! I couldn't believe that I couldn't figure out how to get back to the live buffer!)

The live buffer only records if you're actually WATCHING live (or delayed) TV. If you are tuned to a channel, then watch the RECORDED version of that show (not just Live TV backed up) then the Live TV buffer stops. When you go back to Live TV, it starts recording again.

I personally think that the Live TV should be identical to a Recorded Show - just put a setting somewhere where we choose how long to record (Most Recent 2 Hours) or something.
