I am considering modifying my Lexicon MC-1 so that the front

processed L/R pair is also available on a stereo SPDIF output.

I plan on feeding this into a better DAC which I use with my

CD player (the dac's are much better than the lexicon, so

think of this as an external DAC upgrade..)

It would also be useful to have the Center/Sub on a second

stereo spdif and a third spdif for the rear channels.

I've looked briefly at the datasheets for the DAC's in the lexicon and also for

an spdif transmitter chip with the idea of taking the input to

the DAC and feeding that to the spdif TX unit. However, that

is too simplistic and I need to know more about the layout

of the lexicon... Some of the (non audio) data for an spdif output is "missing",

but could be created if I knew more about how the DAC's are

controlled.

And well just about everything else I've toyed

with has been done by someone else before :) ... so before

I reinvent the wheel here, has anyone beaten me to it? If so

please let me know what you did.

Failing that if anyone knows where I could get a schematic...

Andrew,

Have you checked out the optional expansion input ports (A, B and C) of the MC-1 and how they are enabled ? If not, I would recommed doing that first as it may do what you are looking for. It is not very clear (at least for me) from your post what exactly you are trying to do with the 3 SPDIF configuration. Could you elaborate on the application (What source, how you will be using the DAC, for what channels etc) you will be using this for.

Am I right in assuming that you are trying to use Logic 7 processing, but you want better DACs ? Wouldn't you need 4 outputs and not just 3 in this case if you are doing 7.1 ?
