Go oppo!!! Nice job.

Well not sure how this will play out Jon. I haven't found a statement online that specifically says that.....just a lot of observations saying ya it sure looks like a Oppo clone.

This comment is interesting:
"What I would like to know: Is Lexicon paying Oppo fees for this apparant clone? It plays the same disc types and has an identical layout, both of the front panel and the rear panel. The only added “feature” seems to be that you can play the yak-track over the lossless audio, yay (IMO defeating the purpose of the lossless audio).

If so, Oppo presumably demands very high fees, as the Lexicon’s price is 7 times! that of the Oppo. I suppose some of the added cost is explained by having to get the player THX certified....."

I recently sold my RT-10: one of the best universal players for audio quality at the time: although the video performance was mediocre at best

it held its resale value fairly well

no comparison to the OPPO though: hard for me to see how a new front panel can drive the cost so much

It's clearly a BDP-83 clone. The only question is what changes they've made to the platform (presumably they are going to beef up the power supply and analog section) and what was really required to get THX to sign off on it (if anything). It's certainly not going to hurt OPPO's sales to have a "cousin" player wearing the Lexicon badge, though.

It reminds me a bit of a Secrets review of Lexicon's 7x300W amp, which lists for $10,000 and is remarkably similar to Outlaw's Model 7900 (which sells for $3,500), all the way down to the layout of the rear panel. Both are built by ATI in California.

He might go to $1749 (based on latest reports putting the Lex at $3499 MSRP), but probably not $1750...

Nope. BDP-83 is not THX certified.

Neither is the Lexicon player as of the time of that announcement.

The BD-30, which is currently going through the THX certification process, will be released at CEDIA Expo 2009 in September, according to Marc Kellom, VP of marketing for Lexicon parent Harman International.

We might see other clones as well. Will Cambridge offer one?

Here's a question: Lexicon has irritatingly avoided HDCD for as long as I've known that they could support it. But Oppo supports it. Will the new Lexicon player?
