I have both these in good working condition after the latest Dtv upgrade. Can anyone recommend one over the other and why?

I currently have my original 360, the 1st replacement 360, and a new yet to be activated LG. I have to send back two receivers.

Ok, I also received an LG to replace the Samsung, through DirecTV's Protection Plan. (I had asked for something other than a Samsung because I was afraid that if they weren't sending out 360's, they would send out 160's. Of course D* wouldn't guarantee which box I would get). After having the weekend to try out the LG, I am pleased with it. I sent back the Samsung yesterday. Here's what I like about the LG:

the "surf" menu

discrete codes for my pronto

s-video picture quality for my dvd recorder

Now I wasn't dissatisfied with the Samsung, if it didn't die out on me I still be a happy HD viewer. HD picture quality I think is about even between the two. SD output looks a lot better to me with the LG. OTA reception is about equal for me. I think the only thing I'll miss would be the AV inputs on the Samsung. I used to use it for my dvd player so I could upscale the Avia patterns.

Still, if I had a choice (like if the Samsung was working properly) at this point, I'd probably go with the LG based on my experience and needs.

cjs,

Thanks for the input. I think I will try it out tonight.

traderich,

I got lucky. The Dtv rep and I both thought I would probably get another 360 when he was placing the order. I found out the next day while tracking the shipment that it was an LG.

Does anyone happen to know if I can take the access card out of the current Samsung and put it in the new LG rather than activating the card that came with the LG?

Thanks

I used the new card and sent the 360's card back, still installed in the slot. There are some instructions noting this in the red plastic "RETURN DOCUMENTS" envelope stuck on the outside of the box. You'll have to call to get the card activated, of course.

D* sent me an LG to replace my faulty Samsung. The LG has worked great to this point. Based on my experience, I'd keep the LG (after trying it out) if I were you.

I had to use the new card they sent with the LG and call for activation.

Tried out the new LG last night after activating the card that came with it. Luckily the rep did not deactivate the card from the 1st replacement Samsung so I was able to compare the two pics. The letter that came with the replacement recrs says to return them within 7 days or I would be charged for them but the rep on the phone said I have 30 days. I intend on trying both receivers out for a couple of weeks, perhaps longer if they let me. :)

The program guide on the LG is very small with a tiny window in the upper left to show which channel you are watching. The guide on the Samsung filled the entire screen with a larger picture window. Any idea if you can enlarge this?

So far the PQ seems close with a slight edge to the Sammy. Seems less grainy at times. Of course I did not have a direct comparison. LG was DVI out; Sammy was Component out. It takes a few seconds to swap sources on the DLP also.
