LG Arena Sounds (FPS Game) Sound distant

This might not be the right forum (maybe received) but appreciate the thoughts.

I have a JBL Arena 5.1.2 setup with a Yamaha Receiver that I am having challenges with. Specifically (in multiple games) I am finding ambient noise, music, dialogue and bass coming in strong in a first person shooters but then finding sounds like a gun shot/reload etc.. comes in distant and muted. I have adjusted the level of my speakers/distance and not finding it to make much of a different (including straight, pure direct, different sound options).

Same token when I am watching a movie the sound seems to pop regardless.

Trying to determine if it is the speakers, received, xbox etc.. and looking for help on a starting point.
