Regarding the BH100's limitations with HD DVD discs, understand that to LG Electronics is a supporter of Blu-ray Disc technology, not HD-DVD. Also, to qualify as a valid HD-DVD player, LG would have had to purchase a HD-DVD license and incorporate the additional technology to fully support iHD menu system for HD DVDs which would have added to the overall costs of the product.
This product is strategically positioned for videophiles, alpha-geeks and those who don't mind dropping over a $1k for a first generation product. It does fully support HD DVD playback, uses LG's custom interactive HD DVD menu system when playing HD DVDs, but accessing special features video can be a treasure hunt.
Word is that a 2nd gen model may be arriving later in the year, but no word on HD DVD iHD support. Support for iHD and complete HD DVD player qualification will depend on sales, and consumer wish list feedback.
I can say that it is truly a space saver being smaller than most average Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD players. Load times are fairly long (20-30 sec.) and are not comparable to a Sony PS3, but then again, its not a computer like the PS3 which can load a Blu-ray Disc fairly quickly. Other than lack of full HD DVD qualification and iHD menu system, Blu-ray Disc and DVD support is seamless.
Hope this helps.
