I ran the "hack" script on BH200 and also upgraded to the latest firmware (Apr 08). Changed the EEPROM string to recognize PAL.

Question, why do I need the 0702 driver?

All I can find in the FAQ is that it will enable me to play a few movies (which presumably don't play otherwise)?

1. You can upgrade the Driver by connecting the LG BH200 to an Ethernet connection, then: SETUP, OTHERS, NETWORK UPDATE.

2. If you're having trouble doing this it can also be downloaded here:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=340DFQY4

Once this page has loaded, enter the Security Code and click DOWNLOAD. If you cannot spot this, please look at these screenshots:

Download filename: LG BH200 Driver Upgrade 0702 (2008-03-21).zip

Contents: Instructions.doc, Fixes.txt, JBL2.zip

* This will also work on European models.

* Driver 0702 fixes issues with Saw IV, Hitman and Enchanted on Blu-ray.

* When you put the CD/DVD/USB Stick in the LG BH200 it should be recognised automatically and start processing.

* Driver 0702 upgrades the driver in the physical disc drive itself (where you put the disc), it has no control over any other aspect of the LG BH200.

IMPORTANT: Before transferring the JBL2.ROM file to a CD/DVD/USB Stick make sure it's size is: 1,257,962 bytes. Please also make sure you read Instructions.doc before applying the upgrade. To see a screen shot of the JBL2.ROM file Properties window click here.

A Driver-update normally fixes issues/bugs related to the Drive himself. When the Driver 702 was released end of march it fixed problems regarding the movies you already mentioned.

My point of view is simple: When fixing problems with those few movies at the time they released the 702 update, the probability that it also fixes problems with movies released after this date is huge.

You're right on one point: We all do not know exactly what the driver fixes beside issues with the few movies mentioned. But think about it: Your PC you work every day with, is a very complex piece of hardware and makes nearly every day an automatically update. You ever asked: What does this update fix?? I think not. But one is for sure: These days you've definitely less problems running your PC. Thanks to the updates the machine makes every day

So, if you want to ensure to have the fewest problems with your LG you can have, make the update and enjoy your new toy

Cheers

AlfaGT

P.S. It's 6 pm, my PC is looking for updates right now

No offence etc50 but I've answered that question 3 times now.

Besides you've already answered your question, the Mini-FAQ answers why you need it. If you don't have those titles you probably don't need it. Contrary to popular opinion (no offence to anyone) by some the "Driver" only has limited power, it's the "Firmware" which does most of the work.

I then went on to say it's always a good idea to have the latest version of the drivers. You may get those titles in the future too, or a mate may want to watch them. You've probably spent more time asking this question, then just getting on and installing it
. It takes only a couple of minutes to update both by USB/CD/DVD or Ethernet if appropriate.

Again no offence intended. Install it if you want to, don't if you don't
.

Why start another thread? You don't need to keep copy/pasting from the Mini-FAQ, it has a "Reply to Thread" option too
.

Some users over in the "Disc Problems Thread" reported Hitman ran but not properly, it could've been the "Digital Copy Disc". I cannot remember.

I'm not aware of anyone on this forum mentioning the other titles but I guess they didn't work 100%.

I asked the LG Engineer what 0702 addresses and they "specifically" responded by saying it fixes those titles.

I'm inclined to believe that's all it fixes, which would make sense. As you know AlfaGT, the Driver just updates the ROM in the drive itself (where you put the disc), nothing more, nothing less.

Agreed.

If nothing else 0701 clearly has bugs, LG wouldn't have released 0702 otherwise.
