LG DLP v Sammy DLP

I searched these forums but could not find any comparisons on these two models. (LG Model - RU-44SZ51D) v. (sammy Model - HL-P4663W)

I know the LG has a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and the Samsung a 1500:1. Other than that what are some major differences?

Any input would be helpful.

Also, is the Tuner the only difference between the lg 51d and the 61d? I am assuming the 51d would be the way to go.
Nick,

The LG Model you mentioned uses the HD2 DMD while the Sammy uses the HD3 chipset.

Check out http://www.digiupdate.com/105_DLP_RPTV.html for info on HD2 vs HD3 and beyond.

That's incorrect. the 51 is silver on the bottom, the 61 is black. That is the ONLY difference (the 61 is generally carried by higher-end stores. For example, BB carries the 51, not the 61).

The difference between this and the 4663 is the chip. The HD2 chip in the LG is sharper than the HD3 in the Samsung, at the expense of contrast ratio and deeper blacks. So it's really a matter of personal preference - a sharp, video like look vs. a smooth, film like look. I personally don't like the HD3 because when I view it next to an hd2 or 2+, it looks fuzzy. Of course, in your house without anyting to compare it to, it would look awesome, but it's forever ruined for me having seen it side by side with HD2's and 2+'s.
Thanks for the info. I will have to find a store that has them side by side to judge for myself.
