I have an ED plasma too (Panasonic TH-42PA20) and the 3510A, but I have it connected via DVI. One advantage I've seen for the DVD player is that on my set the color decoding is more accurate on the DVI input than it is on the component input, based on the blue/red/green filters that come with Digital Video Essentials. I had planned on upconverting the DVD output to 1080i, but to my eye it looks better at 480p which I think is because there are fewer conversions going on. Seems to make sense to leave it at 480p since that is the native resolution of the display. I think it's just something you'll have to see for yourself. I've found the DVD player to have some very nice features compared to my older, more basic player that it replaced.
