LG LST 4200A serial port - anyone ?

836 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  JohnTheDoe
Hi,

Has anyone decoded the serial port on the LG LST 4200A ? Do you know if its enabled and if you can send channel change commands etc via the serial port ? What kind of cable does it need, straight thru or cross over ?

I'm thinking about hooking a HTPC ( www.mythtv.org ) and thinking about using the serial port to control the channels for recording etc. So, you need to drive the channel change with an IR Led (which is more laborsome) or by sending commands via the serial port.

Thanks

Serial control on the LG boxes is only meant for internal LG purposes (updating software, etc), from what I recall. It will not work for channel changes, etc.
has anyone been brave enough to hook a serial cable to the RS232 port yet ? any hacks ? back doors ?

almost 3 months now for early adoptors, out of warranty anyway :)

thanks

I was wondering if LG released software updates for the 4200? I havn't seen anything that would indicate that it would need a software update, but I was just curious. This box seems popular enough that it would seem like someone would have figured out if the box can accept channel change commands though the serial port.
Has nobody tried yet to interface their PC to the serial port? I will try to spend some time on it this weekend.
